Cypher: "Besides the raising of children marriage also includes benefits in old age pensions, visiting rights, taxes and so on. Just to name a few other partly economic aspects without accepting economics to be the reason to marry."

These are the rights I said that states would take away from married couples rather than be forced to give them to homosexual couples. States might abolish civil marriage altogether. There are some countries (such as Israel) where civil marriages do not exist, only ecclesiastical ones.

I am getting new support from an unexpected quarter. President Obama, in saying he does not support the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), said that issued of marriage are traditionally left to the states!

Saw that girl playing baseball story.

Sucks to be the kids on both sides.

Though obviously, religious schools should be allowed to decide such things.

Cypher (back at post #44). I have been busy giving final exams.

Jesus, by offering His own blood on the cross, has taken our sins to Himself. But the harm that sin does to third parties has not been broken. So the old testament curses are still in effect.

The marriage covenant creates a disincentive for the wife to be unfaithful but obviously it does happen. It is more likely to happen if she thinks that the parasitic male has better genes than her husband. A parasitic male may lack a mate who can give complete attention to his offspring, but he compensates for that by having a greater number of offspring, the major burden of the care of which is borne by the cuckolded husbands of his other conquests.

Would have been at 100 if you just answered the questions you were asked Thrax ;)

I'll save this thread!

http://www.gallup.com/poll/28417/most-americans-approve-interracial-marriages.aspx

In 1958, only 4 percent of Americans surveyed supported marriage between "white and colored" people.

I guess the other 96% weren't bigots though, because that's how they were raised.

Hopefully in 50 years we won't have to worry about people's resistance to gay rights, but it's a shame we have to wait so long.

Again, prove to me that homosexuality is born, and not learned, and I'll allow the comparison to racism.

Did you learn to be heterosexual Thrax? Prove that homosexuality is learned. Or put it this way, prove that people are born religious. If not, surely its ok to discriminate based on what religion a person has "learned" to live by? Or is it only ok to discriminate based on a christian belief?
