Cypher: "Besides the raising of children marriage also includes benefits in old age pensions, visiting rights, taxes and so on. Just to name a few other partly economic aspects without accepting economics to be the reason to marry."
These are the rights I said that states would take away from married couples rather than be forced to give them to homosexual couples. States might abolish civil marriage altogether. There are some countries (such as Israel) where civil marriages do not exist, only ecclesiastical ones. I am getting new support from an unexpected quarter. President Obama, in saying he does not support the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), said that issued of marriage are traditionally left to the states! |

All politicians will suck the collective dicks (no pun intended) of whatever voter base they want to impress. He could care less if gays had the right to be married.

If 1% of the US were jewish, and 99% christians, would you think it was OK for if the christian part of the population to vote for a legislation that banned synagogues? |

(Though, in truth, the NC bill does more to discredit heterosexual relationships, as homosexual unions were already not recognized - but I feel like you'd include your point in any anti-gay right legislation, not just this particular one, yes?). But I don't care why you (the voters, not you Thraxle) want to deny gay marriage rights. Whether it's because it "makes you uncomfortable" or because your preacher says so or because you just like the piss other off, you're being a bigot. And you were comparing the acts. You asked how the argument for one is different from the other. The inherit difference in the arguments is the difference between the two acts. |

at 3:45 PM, Thursday May 10, 2012 EDT Since consensual sex has been brought up, I would mention that consensuality does not mean that others are not harmed. There is some sort of spiritual interaction when sex happens and if God's spirit is brought into contact with an ungodly one, God might get a little upset. Also, some actions, such as murder, pollute the land, and the land can be cleansed only by the blood of the polluters, so if the level of pollution reaches a tipping point, God will raise up a people from outside who will do the job of cleansing. So a so-called victimless crime is not necessarily victimless.

at 4:08 PM, Thursday May 10, 2012 EDT Demonology isn't my line, but I suspect that your typical run-of-the mill demon is probably some sort of mind virus. Sometimes a particular demon is associated with a particular kind of evil, but since mankind in general is afflicted with the same sorts of evils, it would be a big job for one demon to be afflicting everyone on earth, even if he could travel at the speed of light. A more plausible hypothesis is that a demon associated with a particular evil does not have its own intelligence (just as a virus is not technically alive) but it interacts with minds and can replicate itself, so the world is afflicted with a gazillion copies of a particular kind of demon.

at 4:20 PM, Thursday May 10, 2012 EDT We are a bit short on demon-detecting technology.
C.S. Lewis, in his novel _That Hideous Strength_, calls demons "macrobes", and compares them to microbes in the sense that before we had the technology to detect microbes, we didn't have much power against them. Since we don't have macrobe-detecting technology, it might be best for you to leave the lady alone. |
