Organizing 3v3 games

Maybe it has been brought up before and i think we can do it by ourselves if it is still not a site option (if mods agree). So i thought we could try it a fixed hour once a week (i.e. Wednesday that there are no tourneys) We could do it either on 500s (so the funneling is less) or in 2k (so it is more interesting and noone sits by accident). Red, purp, blue vs green, yellow, brown. Somebody could sit as teal with an alt (i can do it for 4-5 games), or someone who does not care about pts, and lag out (so there are no ticking flag problems). Map should be big, teams could be arranged or made up at that moment, winner team stays, we can keep a scoreboard.

thanks Mr K you just scared Ryan even more

keep it simple or simple or simple

in the current format, the goal is mainly to at least have a place to play it, and if possible with a small point reward

how you described it, this table has no set teams and will result in that in every game you will get a 1/2/3 truce.

well 2 options:

A) teams are decided before the game starts (team members should be red purp blue vs green yellow brown or something)

B) teams are formed depending on the starting colour (1st to start+ 3 +5 vs 2 4 6 or something similar)

I used (the random teams)in a response to veta because the other option were fixed teams (like 5 player teams with 3 sitting).

random just means that people can agree in advance with who they will team up with, no need to limit yourself you a fixed team so ranks are completely individual

if there is enough interest in the format and enough feedback here, I will post an advisorblog thread for team games in February.

Smurf and dottir are trying to get a few tables named @TEAMTABLE1 etc for 500 and 2k, maybe 100 too. Other people with @name accounts in top300 (or having won a tournament) that are willing to change it to @TEAMTABLE on the last day of the month are always welcome. If your name is @TEAMXXX during the maintenance period, the name will be TEAM. If you change your twitter account back to the normal name at the start of the new month, the TEAM table name will stay anyway.

If we don't have enough good tables this way, we can "confiscate" others for team play, but not if they are already partly filled by players who have no clue.

we need agreements on general rules

*how do we settle the non playing person (7th? 4th with dom?)

*teams decided before game or based on starting colour?

* teams sit red purp blue / green yellow brown?

*we can create a rank for people that will use an account for team games only. You can use the account outside of team games too to gain some points but there needs to be a trace of your team/non team games. So I recommend a system where the people who want to enter the team game ranking keep screencaps of their last 10 games history. If team games will only happen on the @TEAMTABLEs and a limited set of the regular tables, the last 10 games history can be the proof for the ranks. Only games on tables in the team table list will be accepted for the team ranks.

wins will be games you placed 1 2 or 3, losses will be games you ended 4 5 6 or 5 6 7 (depending what we agree on as place for the grey person).

It will be easier to keep track of team games if people use a specific alt for it (maybe with a _T suffix or something if you create a new account) but I guess people can use their main.

Ideally we need a set of people keeping score and let's hope no one will take the fun out of this by falsifying results. If people can send me screencaps of their last 10 games activity (when they play team games), I am willing to keep score for say 5 people.

It's just a shame that we have to do this manually. It's probably going to be impossible to do. Maybe there is a group of people who want to enter these team ranks and others who just want to play a few and not bother. The interested people can agree on who keeps track of who's team results.

forget 4th with dom (after losing team is dead), just 4th will do I think

Play it for the fun on 100. The teamgames I played was teams depending on starting position, that way it was semi-random and you could not teamplay the same persons every time. Also we played 4v3. Was fun and simple even on todays tables.

well the old format was 4v3 with the 3 first starting colours being team A.

I think A1 A2 B2 A3 B3 B4 would be slightly more interesting because you don't have 3 or 4 players of the same team playing right after each other

I like the A1/3/5/7 vs A2/4/6 idea for the simple fact that team members don't play directly after one another and it allows people to pick who they want on their team (deciding who's with who before game starts)

However, for a more spontaneous approach to choosing who is on who's team, there is always the old fashioned "roll off". The highest 3 against the lowest 4, or visa-versa. Of course this has problems too because everyone has to roll on one another from the beginning (;P) but this shouldn't cause too much of a situation as even if someone has a move that will completely ruin someones starting game, they may end up as team mates anyway.

The only problem I see with someone deciding to be neutral and take 4th, (and actually, the main problem)is that...well, no one will want to ;p (Unless ofc as Joe said, someone uses an alt to sit in). This just means that people will have to have an alt handy in case of such an event.

If Ryan ever goes through with this and makes it an official game-play option for the site (I.e when hell freezes over), maybe it will remove any arguments or discussions about how exactly it should be played. Then again, it is Ryan and whatever he does will most likely end up causing even more complaints about how the site is ran n_n

Anyhoo, I'm 100% down with team games and whatever way it works out, at least it will bring (officially in a non-official accepted by Ryan way) something new and interesting to the site.
