This is the main point. I think Yodel under-estimates just how much pinging you would have to do to shut down someones Broadband internet connection. |

at 2:47 AM, Tuesday December 20, 2011 EST I have seen something similar. Not identical. The word proxy and kdice were definitely in the line, but I remember it being all lowercase letters.

at 4:25 AM, Tuesday December 20, 2011 EST Tbh, I noticed the dos attack too. Usually it's happening with the same players and as I don't believe in coincidence, I got my own theory for the conspiracy. I know about distributed dos attacks and how they work, seems unlikely. But there's another way to do it: Ping the server with manipulated frames. Every user only has a fixed amount of traffic/request which he gets attributed. I'm a theoretical computer scientist but I'm pretty sure, it would involve a slave network again. So unlikely. But hey, I wouldn't be paranoid if I'd just swallow that. So forge (especially ACK) packets to desynchronize the server and the client. Easy job, not much traffic needed and it works for sure if you got the right informations (at least in theory ;]).

If you won't take my advise on the topic then clearly you aren't interested in advice. Good luck. LoL |

at 3:18 PM, Thursday December 22, 2011 EST deadcode's denials here are really very specific in a very interesting way -- he talks about the near-impossibility of "shutting down someone's broadband internet connection", which is of course not what these convenient lags are at all. Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
