at 10:54 AM, Friday October 7, 2011 EDT Thanks for everyone's contribution, I think it's great that we are discussing game ethics
"Therefore, referees and players shouldn't play together, they have a role." "I believe mods get the most nice treatment than any other player. I know thraxle AND jurgen AND vermont have been given games hey didnt deserve while i was playing with them." I don't think us mods get the nicest treatment all the time. But I won't deny that some people will think twice about backstabbing me or screwing my wins by lame moves. Then again, part of that will also be because they know I won't forget lame moves as a player either. We also get screwed extra out of spite or just to mess with a person in power. Overall, we might gain a bit due to it but I wouldn't exagerate the effect either (I 'd be very surprised if it's more than 5 ppg). If I receive a crazy favor, please point it out if I missed it and I will consider what I can do to undo it. I also play less because I try to mod instead of play so overall, I know for a fact that I have been losing points being a mod. That's not a problem, I've never been a real pointwhore and I swore to myself that I would never try for top3 long before I became a mod. But I don't want to have to give up my right to play. Ryan always had playing mods in mind anyway. Most of my games now are on alts so I can play in peace + do some modding in secret. I can only speak for myself but I think all mods are able to seperate playing from modding. If I play, I am playing as a player and not as a mod. I can think of at least 4 bans that I didn't do because I got screwed myself but it felt biassed to ban the fishy moves. |

at 11:02 AM, Friday October 7, 2011 EDT I'm not sure it will be believed coming from a mod, but the games where get points we don't necessarily "deserve" are outweighed by the points we lose due to a certain subset of players not liking anyone with the mod badge.
Again, you have to consider the source, so I'm not sure how to convince you, but that has been my observation. Honestly, it's not much of a difference either way, and given how seldom I play these days it doesn't really matter to me much. |

at 1:52 PM, Friday October 7, 2011 EDT I really don't understand how the concept of fair play is difficult to understand for the people in this thread. Most have been here at least a year, many way more than that. It's so damn obvious when you're favoring players game in and game out.
From the walls of text you would think there's all these subtle nuances to it. I was the first one to ever bring up the MOB bs with the nuflis end of the month a really long time ago, it's a little different now since the groups are more loyal these days. It was a bit more fluid who was favoring who back then. |

at 8:16 AM, Wednesday October 12, 2011 EDT I believe fair play can never be achieved in a social game.
no matter what reason, humans tend to judge their friends differently than unknown, humans makes excuses for friends, while they are quick to jump to fear when it comes to unknowns. the rational choise is to be nice to the player that you know will be nice to you, so much so that it is hardwired in human nature. if you combine that, with a game that rewards the people that screws other people whenever they can get away with it, you have kdice. it is not even a conscientious choice. it is mainly a combination of gut feeling, and emotions. humans are hardwired that way. it can get somewhat better, but it can never be removed. also, if you were to have 500 tables, as max, it could work, if the sum on 500 tables was -70, instead of +70. then, MAYBE it would not be all about playing 1k games to get the month. but the site would become boring, and noone would play anyways.... |
