Just to make sure I'm not at fault here

Ok so here's the deal. I'm at home for the summer about to move up for university in a week. About a month ago I go up to find one of my friends had already moved into the room I wanted, and the landlord says it's first come first serve so I think fuck it, nothing I can do.

So all there is left is another decent room, and a small shitty room that noone wants. I go to the landlord's house and pick up the keys for the decent room, and it is then locked with some of my things in it. I am content.

Today I get a facebook message from the last kid, saying that he called the room I took from the first time we went to see the house (which is true), and therefore he called a locksmith to change the locks on my room, and to make him a new key so he could move into my room.

Is this normal?

In my opinion, that room is my private property... Neither he nor the landlord has the right to unlock or literally break in to my room, take my shit out and put theirs in, just because he was the last to rent his room from the landlord...

You wouldn't believe how easy it'd be to solve this issue with a lil' bit of violence. However, I assume that if you knew how to solve it, you would've done it already.

Creating violence continues violence. Natural selection will weed out your kind.

The issue is not one of law (payment of money) but one of equity (getting someone to do nor not do somethings). Make your claim on the equity argument. Oral contracts are valid contracts, defendant chose room Y, you chose room X, defendant can't change his mind.

one day natural selection will favor violence.

natural selection is a blind force, not one that we can bend towards our desires.

@jproducts13
This only shows me that you have absolutely no idea how to use violence properly. heck, I bet you can't even understand what controlled violence is.

Oh well, no wonder you're getting screwed by that guy and your landlord. Also... that guy seems to have landed higher than you in the food chain with a simple trick (probably a small bribe or by using his quick tongue), so I wonder who will be "weeded out" here.

@monte
I wouldn't be so sure about the future.

if jproducts doesn't pay rent, is everyone on the lease responsible?

If you put shit in their room it will smell bad and make them want to leave duh. However you wanna make sure it's not YOUR shit or shit that can be proven that you had access too over anyone else. Hence why dog turds are a good compromise. You could find bum shit too...Just make sure in either case to use gloves and watch ur hands with disinfectant after-wards...

If he has a potted plant then they just dug his own grave. You can mix the shit up into the plants dirt and then he might not find it for a while. ;)

ps. I was just joking though if you put shit in his room ur gonna open up the door for that or worse to be done back to you...An extra large white out bottle with some cheap m80's attached to it, dropped into the front cab of ur car, for instance.

What I would do is force the original kid (who took your room) to move, or force the kid who stole your new room to take the shitty one. Either way you shouldn't be getting the short end of the stick here.

If the situation is shit for the whole semester just make a really big burrito with a few raw eggs and don't cook it and just let it sit in ur room for a week before break. Then when the kid leaves, break up the burrito and put it all up in his bed and don't ever come back. :P

I believe the kid that changed the locks was in the right, the kid that took your room was in the wrong, changing the rules like that after agreeing on who gets what rooms is wrong.

btw, I would maybe take the shitty room and demand to pay half rent, seing as I got the shitty room.

one common way of doing it is to bid for the rooms, that is what you shuold have done.

so, if the roomes on average is 300 /month, then the people really wanting the nice rooms would bid like 350 for the nice rooms, and the shitty room would be at 100
