Just to make sure I'm not at fault here

Ok so here's the deal. I'm at home for the summer about to move up for university in a week. About a month ago I go up to find one of my friends had already moved into the room I wanted, and the landlord says it's first come first serve so I think fuck it, nothing I can do.

So all there is left is another decent room, and a small shitty room that noone wants. I go to the landlord's house and pick up the keys for the decent room, and it is then locked with some of my things in it. I am content.

Today I get a facebook message from the last kid, saying that he called the room I took from the first time we went to see the house (which is true), and therefore he called a locksmith to change the locks on my room, and to make him a new key so he could move into my room.

Is this normal?

In my opinion, that room is my private property... Neither he nor the landlord has the right to unlock or literally break in to my room, take my shit out and put theirs in, just because he was the last to rent his room from the landlord...

No problem jproducts; I just gave you a hard time because you were a hard ass at times. But no hard feelings; I'm sure I've got my times as well.

Hope all goes well with your living arrangements. Either way; just don't take crap from people who pressure you like that. Real friends are not worried over trivial stuff like rooms. Good luck; and have fun with your summer.

Do gold claim rules apply? He found the gold first but you filed the claim first?

What happened was 4 of us went to see the house early on and decided to take it. We all agreed on our rooms (there are 5 in total) and were happy.

Then 3 months later a fifth was found and we all agreed he would get the small room (but he later took my room).

When I went up originally, I was told it was first come first serve so I took the decent one of the 2 remaining.

Then this kid messages me yesterday saying sorry, he changed my locks, moved my shit out and moved his in and said he called that room all along...

There is no doubt it's dick behaviour, but w/e.

Try small-claims court.

most likely there's no provision in your lease that stipulates you pay rent based on a specific room being available to you... you don't really have a case here. Sounds like a lame argument between college students; the court won't involve itself in something so petty... just take the room you wanted when he's out of town.

Any lease agreement will require that the full monthly payment is due on a set date. If you withhold rent, you will allow the landlord to take action against you (and the others who have signed the lease) to recover the rent monies owed. Just read the lease agreement, it will spell it all out for you.

Asides from that you should have had a better arrangement with your future roommates for who will be living in which room. Maybe just switch with the kid that took your room at the end of the semester.

Pick up dog turds around the area and find ways of getting them into that dudes room.

That's the responsible way of handling a disagreement such as that.

:/. I'd rather avoid living here. In the lease it also said renovations were to be completed before we moved in as well as internet being available as well which it was not- would this be grounds for not paying?

I get what you guys are saying and it makes sense, the lease is not individual.
