when people tell me "I'm a republican"...in my mind it registers "I'm ignorant"

I think it's interesting that I assign certain qualities to republicans unintentionally
is that normal?

Obviously know gay is not a race, just trying to point out a civil rights issue. You do not need to be rude. Second, so when gay marriage was passed in New York it was passed by all Republicans? I think not. Are you really going to sit here and try to tell me most Republicans support gay marriage vs Democrats?

Thirdly, your arrogance is disgusting and turns people off on kdice.

I'm not stating any of the things you said. I'm just stating that republicans and democrats are both divided on the issue.

I'm sorry if I offended with with my response; but it is equally offensive to me to see uninformed voters while our democracy is crumbling.

I suggest that you start listening to all sides and make up your own decisions. Saying "Republicans are against gay marriage; and democrats are for gay marriage" only serves to show that you are only listening to one sides talking points. This is where my frustration comes from.

Am I stating I am Republican or Democrat? No I am not. I am just pointing out on the percentage of democrats for and republicans against gay marriage. There are other platforms, yes, that I might be ill-informed on or do not know much about. Lastly and kind of randomly, what is your personal opinion on gay marriage?

I personally think the states should decide because that is the constitutionally correct way of doing it; or an amendment to the constitution is required.

However within my state I would have absolutely no issue with gay marriage. I have no negative feelings towards gay people; in fact I have a ton of friends that are gay; I mean I live in NYC how could you not.

My issue is only with the idea that the federal government should be able to rule on anything that personal. Remember the door swings both ways; giving power to the government to do good can also be used for bad. I prefer a weaker government and more freedoms for people to make their own decisions.

I support gay marriage on any state ballot; including NY.

I guess that the people that are for gay marrige puts thisone together with that previous there where laws in certain states that did not alow whites and blacks to marry. I guess you believe that right should be federal, not dependant on state, then according to the people for it, gay marrige should also be a federal right, seing as marrige can be seen as a part of the pursut of happiness and could be regarded as a natural extention in the sprit of the consitution, which if I remember correctly reads something like "rights include, burt are not limited to.." and then goes on the describing the rights that the people have.

sorry for posting again
"My issue is only with the idea that the federal government should be able to rule on anything that personal"

is not an amendment to let gay marry just a law to make sure that the governemnt/states does NOT have the ability to rule on something that personal, to me it seems like it is guaranteeing the right from a federal level, so that the states cannot infringe upon it. just like the first amendment does for religion
