when people tell me "I'm a republican"...in my mind it registers "I'm ignorant"

I think it's interesting that I assign certain qualities to republicans unintentionally
is that normal?

Pretty sure republicans voted against the civil rights act & I'm pretty sure they're still against it (Ron paul). So yeah I think you got that bit wrong dead. Besides you would've been a democrat 100 years ago and I would've been a progressive republican. Your point is therefore moot and yodel got banned for being a whiny bitch.

Lol; dodging and weaving still I see BO; perhaps you should read up on your history.

I would start by taking your ignorant little fingers and typing "civil rights act" into google.com then pressing enter. Let the wonders of learning enrich your life.

Neophyte...

Also, can you supply a source for the KKK having office as recently as 2010?

Gauntlet; I know this may come as a surprise to you; but gay is not a race. So it isn't racist to be against gay marriage.

Second; if you really care about the gay marriage at all you should really read up on the issue. Both democrats and republicans are divided on gay marriage. And most of the republicans that are against gay marriage are only against the federal government having anything to do with it; they want the states to decide.

Let me make a really really really simple example for you to absorb. If someone says they want to make a law saying that everyone must brush their teeth before going to bed. And you vote against it on the grounds that the federal government has no business making these decisions; it doesn't mean that you promote poor oral hygiene.

"I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

— Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944

In 1946 or 1947, Byrd wrote a letter to a Grand Wizard stating, "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation."

Finally in 1952, when he wanted to run for the House, he renounced the KKK. Wow he finally learned his lesson...

Well not really because in 1964 he then filibustered the Civil Rights Act while the Republicans supported it.

And there is Obama at Byrd's funeral; where he was commemorated by the Democrat party; of course with no mention of his KKK past.

If that isn't an Uncle Tom moment; I don't know what is.
