when people tell me "I'm a republican"...in my mind it registers "I'm ignorant"

I think it's interesting that I assign certain qualities to republicans unintentionally
is that normal?

CONGRESS CONTROLS THE AGENDA IN CONGRESS.

So basically the President is utterly useless and just a figurehead that draws the ire of the media and American public.

Got it.

well that's quite the jump there

Well, if Congress doesn't answer to the President, and Congress sets it's own agenda, it sounds like the President is merely a figurehead who goes on camera and meets other heads of state.

Sounds like the elected King of America, with no real political power. Or am I gathering you guys descriptions of how or government works incorrectly?

The President has NO CONTROL over congress other than to be able to Veto any bill they pass, which of course can be overridden by congress.

MY point is you are ascribing failures of Obama's leadership to actions of forces he had no control over no matter what his leadership had been.

According to you, Obama can't fail nor can he succeed. He has no control over any of the events that unfold in our government.

This is kind of my point, good leadership yields support from Congress, the media, the public, etc.

Since Sam is claiming he has no control of Congress, then he has failed to lead.

God you can be an annoying troll or incredibly ignorant at times Rob.

Obama can fail, and has at times, and succeed, and has at times, though much of where he fails or succeeds has little to do with what he actually did. Presidents get credit when the economy booms and blame when it busts, despite really having anything other than a psychological effect over the economy.

The problems of the last few years have been perpetuated by idealouges on the right that want to kill the federal government for the benefit of the rich, and sissies on the left that for the life of them cannot simply grow a backbone.

The President is the face of the nation, but he has very little influence over the agenda in congress and the congress has become a den of idealouges and inequity pandering to special interests with very little care for the actual majority of the American public and constituents they were elected to serve.

I get you don't like Obama, don't vote for him. Also you really need to look at the leaders and members of your own party that pretend to represent the country you want, but in fact only pay lip service to that and are serving other masters.
