What do YOU think flagging means?

i was having a little discussion about this with some other players. someone attacked while he was flagged, I said this wasn't very honourable, someone else disagreed :p
So what does flagging mean to you? -Do you surrender to the biggest guy, but still attack others to secure your position? -Does it mean you stop fighting completely, being happy with the lands you have, waiting until the game is over, and in return want others to stop attacking you aswell? -does it mean you'll keep on fighting as if your flag wasn't there, playing until everyone is dead/flagged? -Does it mean you'll sit there, making others believe you are harmless, then when you maxed out your reserves, suddenly attack multiple times and take the lead? -... If you'll all post what you think flagging means, maybe we can come up with a definite meaning for it, kind of like a Geneva convention for Kdice :p |

at 1:56 AM, Saturday April 28, 2007 EDT I think flagging means whatever it means to those playing. I used to think it was a kind of partial immunity or "gentleman's agreement" immunity. If I flagged, I figured that unless some of my land was in a bottleneck or crossroads or adjacent to those kinds of strategic spots, then I was relatively safe. I assume that I'll still be nibbled on if I flag in order for those in better positions to consolidate or secure their spots.
What I despise are the leaders who feel compelled to take a flagging nation down to a single land or even all the way out and go out of their way to do so. I don't think it's wrong, I just don't like it. Overall, I am more concerned with how personally people take the things that happen during a game. If you're flagged and someone rolls over you anyway, that's kdice. Live with it. Better yet, fall back and make a stand. But don't expect that everyone at teh table agrees with your concept of flagging unless it's clearly spelled out in the chat window. And quitcher bitchin' folks, there's always the next game. |

at 12:02 PM, Sunday April 29, 2007 EDT I was in a game the other day where I flagged in second place, so the leader ignored me and my little peninsula. He had allied with a guy barely in fourth place who was surrounded by the leader and wouldn't flag. So the leader told him he could take his lands to get up to second place. He was almost there, so I unflagged and proceeded to beat them both. (tho i let the leader have 2nd.
They both thought this was terrible move because I had already flagged and apparently i should meekly accept being relegated to third because of an alliance I had no part in. Bah. Flagging to me means: I'd accept ending this game now in the state it is in. I'm not obligated to stick to that when the leader commits suicide. |

at 8:05 PM, Wednesday May 2, 2007 EDT When I flag I mean that I won't attack the #1 player. I give up to him. If I mean something else I specify it.
If somebody flags to me I try to respect that. These days I usually ask him what he means by the flag. After reading this thread I see I have been mistaken. I had no idea peoples' interpretations where so different. |
