...For example, while writing my last post I was still in a game; only one person was eliminated, and I only had three territories...when I returned after posting I had won second place. No amount of shifting the scoring around will be able to make the much more or less skill based if the fundamental aspects of game play remain the same.

skunker, allocating or placing your dice where you want them would be an idea so put it in the IDEAS link please, got any questions about the scoring?

Actually I do have a Question (sorry if it has already been asked)

How is the amount of points that you get for dominance calculated??

"Yes, I have found it useful to suicide attack once it's clear I'm stuck and cant expand any further. I don't think this is necessarily bad though, it certainly speeds up the game and eliminates the need to wait several turns for dice to build up, attack once, wait several turns, attack once... "

Not really a question, but good point.

Remember one thing, you always want to place higher than someone else. 2nd gets more than 3rd, 3rd more than 4th etc, always. So if you have done well but lost your lands and are about to die, then suiciding or attacking recklessly might be worthwhile. However, if someone has 2 dice and is about to be knocked out, pass that round and try to place ahead of them.

Place still counts for a chunk of your score and it does matter. But also, the longer you stay at one or two lands (about to die) in a game where u were larger earlier then you do wish to go out or flag etc.

speeds up games, and gets rid of the aspect which can get annoying with the previous scoring system (begging - hey gimmie 4th at least, etc, which can be tedious or annoying when people argue over what they 'deserve') The new system, hopefully, gives them what they deserve regardless of where they place, in a sense.

@ Willhaynes

Dominance is calcualted by a couple things. Mostly it is due to your AS (average size)

Average size is found by how many territories you control at the START of your turn. (so you can expand like mad, BUT if you only hold onto and KEEP 3 lands, then you have 3 lands for your AS (that round), and not 10 or whatever you spread thin to conquer)

AS is an average because it calculates how big your 'empire' is on AVERAGE. So if you have 4 lands in round two, then 5 lands in round three, then 6 lands in the following round, so far your AS = 5

4+5+6 divided by the number of rounds, 5

(note: AS is not counted for the first round of play, I believe, but starts round two - so once everyone has played once)

Essentially you want to expand more and you are rewarded for this.

Dominance also has a factor looking at how much you win when you roll (your %) - not 100% sure about this part, ryan can clarify maybe. But I believe the higher your win % on your rolls the more it counts towards your dominance - but think of it like this. If you are kicking but, then you have 6 stacks next to 3 stacks and so your odds of winning will be high because you are dominating, make sense?

hope that explains it

to note: AS is an average, so dont go expanding wildly and attacking just because people say you should. Remember, if you have 2 lands one round, and 10 the next, your AS will be 6 or so. So dont play silly, sometimes it's okay to play slow and safe if you think you can hold onto it. Just toy with the new game and see what works.

There are plenty of strategies yet to be discovered and ones I wont share cuz I devised them myself through experimenting :)

One other thing. Elo impacts dominance too.

So if all '1500' players do a game and someone dominates completely they might get +25 for dominance, for instance.

if a 1900 player played vs all 1500 players, he might get +9 for doing the SAME exact game.

Elo still matters. Otherwise good players would go bully the 1500 or less tables vs players who go away a lot or are new to the game and pad their score. Just like the old system, there's no sense to that. You still want to play vs equal or higher ranked opponents to gain the most.

ya, that makes since,

But what if you are an average size (like 7 or 8 lands) and you are just sitting there, are you loosing points on your dominance?? That would make since because if you aren't doing anything then you aren't "denominating" and you also aren't wining any rolls...

is that right?

I think the % rolls part is rather minimal, ryan would have to clarify that exactly cuz im not sure how that works specifically.

But - say you have 7 lands and your AS is 7.
Dominance matters relative to OTHERS PLAYING. So a 10 AS is great, if everyone elses who is still alive on the board has less than 10 AS.

so having a 10 AS means NOTHING. It's what your AS score is COMPARED TO others. If everyone has less then 10 at that time, then youre in the lead. If someone has 11, then you are taking second rung in dominance.

so 7 AS means nothing. You have to think what your AS is versus others. If others probably have a 5 AS then you are doing well, if theirs in higher then you should work on it.

excuse me - missed a part of your question

It would actually be OKAY to pass and sit.
Sometimes you might want to do this still, to build up + armies or to thicken up your stacks or whatever other tactic makes sense at the time.

You just have to use common sense.
The one thing to avoid is this - an alliance where you are pinned in and cannot expand (IF you have fewer lands than everyone else) - as that alliance will hinder you greatly.
