at 8:31 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST I got a question. Was the dice roll chance changed?
Before it was common (well not extremely common) to see attackers with 8 dice win against a defender with 8 dice. Now its like attacker looses defender has a greater chance of defending. same goes for any number of dice now. Today I attacked with 8 dice on a defender with 4 and lost. I did it again with 5 dice on a 2 dice pile and lost again. So was this part of the code changed in anyway? |

I think people might be overanalyzing things or coming to too quick of a conclusion. Someone said too many lands are linked now at the start of a game for some people, and your post is another point deathfired. It's one day (that's not even over yet) since the new scoring came in and I think it's too soon to see the trends, hehe. Luck averages over time, just like anything. A game or two, or even 10 games, are not enough to make a claim like that. Luck averages out. 47% of 8v8 attack rolls win. But how many games have u seen where someone CANT win a single roll, and others are on hot streaks. luck averages out - but no, no change was made along those lines, hehe |

at 8:45 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST I can understand what your saying but before the update I use to see everyone and anyone rocking with 8 rice...now its like attack = you loose.
I played the sandbox when it was out and noticed the change but like you said already it was to early to say anything on the forums. When switching to the non-sandbox their was a noticeable change in the way attacks and defense where done. Now that the sandbox is over and we are all playing the update it seems the change was carried over. Thats the only reason why i'm asking if Ryan actually did change the randomness of the dice rolls. i'm not complaining since now I can actually survive when someone owns half the map and i end up with only 2 lands :P |

at 8:54 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST think about it.
you said at some points people were rocking all the rolls and winning now people are losing all the time % chances to win rolls are all on the dice and they haven't changed here's a good link if you want: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/9562/statsbk5.png 8v8 odds have been and remain at 47% Thing is, odds are OVER TIME. so overall, 47% of 8v8s win on offense. But that will be averaged over time. If you flip a penny 10 times, it should be 5 tails 5 heads, right? go try it, you might find you get 7/3 or 8/2 splits but then keep track of it for 100 flips and chances are good when u get to 100 flips it has averaged out to 50/50 no change was done to the coding of how dice roll, hehe, trust me |

at 9:00 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST I just want to confirm that none of the probabilites have changed. They are still based on random six sided dice rolls.
We just naturally notice patterns in randomness. |

at 9:42 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST Hi there, I just started playing a couple days ago.
My question is: is there a precise mathematical equation documented somewhere we can see, of exactly how the number of points gets calculated for both kinds of adjustment? Thanks! |

at 10:09 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST If ryan wants to post the exact formula ill leave it up to him.
Here's what I can summarize briefly. Score = 2 parts that add up to your gain / loss ---Place--- Place of finishing determines points you will receive. Come in first, you get more points. Come in last, you get negative points. Points scale up the higher you go. Elo (the # of your rating) influences things as well. If you are 1500 and play vs all 1500, you will gain a good amount for finishing first. If you are 2000 and beat all 1500s, you will gain significantly less. (thus, it makes sense to play vs people near your rank at all times) for example: 1st = +18 2nd = +12 3rd = +6 4th = 0 5th = -6 6th = -12 7th = -18 (this varies but in general you get the point) **Place is worth less points than dominance, however it still matters a lot and you want to finish above anyone and everyone else when possible** ---Domination--- This is a value determined by how well you dominate. Scroll up to 7:51 (above) where I explained this to see how that works. at the end, these two values are added and thus you have your score. |

at 10:16 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST Here's a summary to think of it without it being overly complicated.
*You want to finish higher than everyone else. Every single person you place higher than at the end the better (just like old system). Makes sense, 1st is better than coming in 3rd. *You want to do well while you play. Don't play reckless, don't be silly. Do take chances if you think they are worth it - this IS a game of chance. Main thing to remember - don't sit with 2 or 3 lands and get 8 stacks, better to have 4 or 5 lands with 4 and 5 stacks. |

I'm confused by your 6:09,6:12 posts in response to my question in post 5:48pm. I'll add all players are 1500, to make it simpler. The numbers listed by A,B,C are their AS at that points in time (x,y). In both situation A,B,C have 14,14,1 territories and if the game ended they would finish in this order A,B,C. Grunvagr, give your opinion too please. |

at 10:43 PM, Saturday February 10, 2007 EST sandy, your question is hard because if the game ends with 14 lands each, who's first?
can you at least say if A or B has more + dice or something, or change the end to 15 land / 14 land - as it is it's a really hard question, hehe I can answer it tho if you help me :) |
