Rules of KDice and bans going with it.

Game Rules

1. Game-to-game favors or alliances are not allowed.

2. Play only one account at a time.

I know the first one is hard to get a clear ruling around, but about the 2nd one.

Alex got banned because he sat 2 acounts on a table to be able to fill it. He left seat before game started everytime, and whenever someone entered the room, he warned them that he would leave seat with his second account. I witnessed it. Therefore, he did not play with 2 accounts.

Does sitting a 2nd account on a table to fill it faster illegal? Does it deserve a ban? If so, I think rule number 2 should be changed to
2. Sit only one account at a time.

Thanks for reading, commenting, replying, etc.

aaaaactually... upon further reflection... i find it unlikely anyone would be sitting 2 accounts in one room to speed filling it. i do find it much more likely that that is just an excuse made up by someone who was about to play 2 accounts in one room and pulled one of them out when they saw a mod come in.

Upon further reflection you truly have no idea what you're talking about. Have you ever sat a 2k table having to wait an hour or more? Well, some people actually have.

It's known to everyone that often plays 2k's: if there are more people sitting - lets say 3 instead of 1 - the rest will follow faster.

Heck if I ever had 1 or 2 alts with more than 2k, I would use this technique each day around noon to get a 2k filled faster.

upon further reflection... I find ac to be a troll who thinks anyone gives two shits or a fuck what he has to say or think.

Sitting an account, even if the intent isn't to play it, automatically takes away 7th place which means the risk of playing the table is greatly diminished.

Yes, everyone is aware that I despised alts, especially players that had multiple accounts in the top 25. Leads to way too many opportunities to be unscrupulous on the top tables and high-end tournies.

But alas, I've been forwarded to a different website TWICE while trying to type this response. So fuck you Ryan and I don't really give a shit anymore. Take better care of your website for fuck sake.

First off. I did not break any rules here. I agree It's a controversial proxy sit, but everyone knew what the deal was, I promotedly sat out before it was too late and no one was complaining about it either. If any moderators asked me not to do it again, I wouldn't and that would be the end of it.

You may say it's stupid or dumb to push the line like that, but you'd be amazed how much it helped. We got at least 2-3 games filled faster doing this method. And yea, we did recruit the normal way as well...

You're always saying that you never make a ban without every every piece of evidence. So why did you continuously ignore everything I had to say and telling the key witness (h1ro) who were actually there to mind his own business? Instead, you started to ask ppl who wasn't even there? And on top of it all, you you remove my chat AND post privileges so that I can't explain what really happened. It took someone else for you to actually look into this. . .

I took the ban when it was in motion and didin't make a new account to post or use chat with. And I'm still not free like you said yesterday I would be.

If you're waiting until the end of the day to unban me, that's your call, but it would just be an extra day of punishment undeserved on my part. I may have bent the rules to help the game start, but I never actually did anything wrong or cheat and for that reason I think I've served my time.

I just logged on because your 48 hours are almost up and I wanted to unban you in time.

thx for agreeing it's a controversial proxy sit. Maybe a ban looked a bit harsh. I admit I did not have the entire picture with the evidence I was sent but I did come to talk to you before I did the ban. I actually reduced the ban length to a short ban. I can not and will not promote proxy sitting so I will always ban if I see it. So I'm asking everyone not to do it again. There are other alternatives for filling a table.

You basically said "yeah I proxy sat but you can't do anything about it". But I accepted your reasons to do it. And I also did listen to h1ro's point (sure I got mad at him because he thinks it was OK and that he put the idea in your head to begin with) but since you mentioned there were other people present at the time and one of them was there (pretty sure it was ji-jo?). I asked everyone to not interfere so I could ask him without him being influenced or conditioned to give a certain answer. I wanted to have his neutral opinion so I could understand what happened. If I had only looked at the screencaps that I was given, you would have had a 2 week ban. Because I came to you and listened, it became 2 days. I can understand that you think that's too much for something that had good intentions but I think there was no need to use proxy to try and fill a table.

I did give a full play/chat/post ban twice but you have about 20 unbanned accounts and even 2 unbanned vallivilorian alts left to post. So I did listen to you and h1ro before I banned (with a reduced ban length as a result) + you had alts to post.

In general I will ban people if they are sitting two accounts, whether the game has started or not. Also sharing or proxying an account to fill a table and letting it take 7th will get you banned too. Just saying.

"Maybe a ban looked a bit harsh", let's check out the next paragraph.

I actually reduced the ban length to a short ban. I can not and will not promote proxy sitting so I will always ban if I see it. So I'm asking everyone not to do it again. There are other alternatives for filling a table.
----------
"I will always ban if I see it". Looks cohesive.

And I also did listen to h1ro's point (sure I got mad at him because he thinks it was OK and that he put the idea in your head to begin with)
----------
Shouldn't get mad for a reason like that, I'm just a player with bright ideas to fill a table quicker. Not by letting someone use two accounts in-game, but letting it sit so it appears that the game will start faster. The appearance of an almost starting game makes people sit faster, this has been known to mankind playing kdice for years.

I think there was no need to use proxy to try and fill a table.
----------
Jurg this whole month I have been sitting at a 2k game each noon, you were never there. I don't think you realise how hard it is lately to fill a 2k, EVEN at the end of a month.

So I did listen to you and h1ro before I banned (with a reduced ban length as a result) + you had alts to post.
----------
When I was actually hearing out the convo I had the feeling you didn't want to hear me out. I gave you no info whatsoever and it became clear you didn't want to hear me out at all since you were talking to other people who were not there (makes sense :/).

All I want to say, in Alex' defense - although him and I can have our disagreements -, is that he made it clear, to EVERYONE, that he only used the account to get more people in the game. He had no intention to play two accounts at the same time.

The most important thing here is that in times of true crisis for kdice, people leaving, people disliking how the top 25 plays/works, the difficulties to get 'newbees' to play a 2k or higher, DC's game coming up, ... quit using your banhammer too often, for the sake of this game.

Rant over, too bad I can't preview my post. Pretty sure I fucked the lay-out up somewhere.

h1ro,

yeah I listened to what you had to say but I didn't feel like discussing it with you. You defended the situation, I took note of it. But then I wanted to talk to other people that WERE THERE without them being pressured into agreeing with something. But nvm, I agree that the goal to fill a table was very OK, I will never like the means that were used.

Now I'll rant a bit too because yeah, it's also frustrating for me to see how KDice is slowly dieing because of lack of development, noobs leaving because of the playstyle at the top... And about me banning a lot, it's not really an issue any more since I already decided to mod way less because of lack of time and because there is no point really.

Cheaters will keep coming back because you can't really block them. You can't focus on the real problems that need banning because we have no tools to trace the major cheating. There are no game replays, no searchable databases with all the game data, etc. If you invest a lot of energy and are lucky enough to see enough clear signs of cheating, you can hardly punish a cheater. Point resets, the most effective way of correcting a problem are only available after intensive stalking of Ryan's mailbox.

And after over 6 years, we're still discussing about stupid rules. Yes I agree some are stupid, kill the fun and were put into place by the moderators (trying to put a stop to certain problems). I can take part of the blame for this system failing but it would have been so much easier to moderate this site if there was a bit more feedback from a certain someone. Now we are forced to use our best judgement and try and be consistent.

You mentioned another site. A site where there is lots of room for ideas, discussions and interactions with the developers and a will to move forward. It looks like a very promising project and I will keep investing more and more time over there.

I just wish that Ryan had at least SOME free time to develop KDice a bit more too.
