Who were the Three Worst/Best American Presidents of the 20th and 21st century...

My vote is as follows:

Worst:
1. Richard Nixon - even before his presidency, he was one evil mofo, nuff said
2. Herbert Hoover - the Great Depression, need I say more
3. George W. Bush, Sr. - often goes under the radar; but really, the Great Recession can be tied to his president

Best:
1. Franklin D. Roosevelt - he didn't serve four terms for nothing
2. Eisenhour - ...I like to think that all his flaws can be tied to his evil Vice president
3. Harry Truman - Rarely made decisions based on his own merit and was a lover of peace

"Four millions of them have just emerged from slavery into freedom. Can it be reasonably supposed that they possess the requisite qualifications to entitle them to all the privileges and immunities of citizenship of the United States?"

Wow quotes of a southern democrat being racist... no shit Sherlock. Funny how you are so lefty but you are absolutely disgusted by their history.

Anyway; I never said I endorsed everything the man said; I just thought he was a good president because of the actions he took to keep the country together. All of us are better off because of that. Other than that he didn't do much; which is fine by me. I prefer presidents to do very little.

Btw; FDR locked up Japanese citizens in internment camps and he is your favorite president. Where is the outrage for that?

Johnson says something racist and you hate him. FDR does something racist and you love him. Odd bed you make.

Dc, quit taking the whole 'it's ok if I overlook the shortcomings of my favorite president, but only an idiot wouldn't realize FDR was a racist bigot who inflated the size of government and sent the US on a path of economic ruin based on what some people in Austria said.'

Anyways, THE GOOD:
-Teddy (because he found out he was president while he was hiking the grand canyon)
-FDR (he may not have handled every crisis he encountered flawlessly, but as a whole, I believe the good outweighs the bad.)
-Nixon (sure he may have been a conniving, paranoid fuckhead, but he worked to stretch America's influence diplomatically more than anyone that has come after him)

THE BAD:
-Carter (holy shit, stick to peanut farming)
-JFK (he made elections into the pandering blow-fest it is today)
-Reagan (sam's post earlier in the thread sums it up nicely)

bro... japanese internment wasn't racially charged at all. it was nothing like say what happened in naziland - almost half of which wasn't charged by prejudice either. the japanese internment was a reaction to the ultra-fascist government of japan, fdr almost interned those of german/italian descent too but he ultimately decided against alienating what he perceived to be an important bloc in the electorate.

the internment camps during the american civil war were probably worse than anything the japanese americans experienced during ww2.

and some civil war camps were probably on par with what dissidents in naziland experienced (sans the final solution).

https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1_____enUS479US479&q=civil+war+internment+camps&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=-syTT_K0Hsni2QW55b2JBQ&biw=1920&bih=947&sei=Bs2TT_70OaaI2gWgv73uBA

in order to even qualify what a concentration or internment camp is you have to go back to their origins in the british-led boer wars, since then it had become commonpractice for a nation to put its conceived threats in such camps, especially during war.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment#Internment_camp

so basically fdr isn't racist, you clearly dont watch ken burns and lol again@racist fdr who established the UNITED NATIONS.

Sometimes more information about an event becomes available later because formerly classified information is made available. The Nazi era is an exception, as explained by Shirer in his book _The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich_. Normally when a regime collapses the secret documents pass to the successor regime which releases only those documents it regards as appropriate. In case of the Nazi documents, they all fell into the hands of the Allied powers and Mr. Shirer has the opportunity to look at them when he was preparing his book.
