Limiting child births will have a negative effect on productivity and prosperity in the long run. I fucking loathe people on an almost universal level and not even I think that is the direction we should take.

This is all going back to the idea that a country needs a polity of philosophers in order to have an effectively run democracy.

Sure it would be nice if all voters had some sort of idea of what the issues are and what the problems are that face this country now and in the future, but let's be honest, that is not possible in this version of reality. A person is smart, but people are dumb, angry, stupid animals. The best we could hope for is to try and create the best education system possible in order to somehow 'tame the beast.'

Now what I could be behind is an open forum political quiz for all elected officials. THAT would be good television. Instead of having them debate amongst themselves, compile a list of questions from the American people/interest groups and have them thrown into a big bank and categorized.

This is what takes the cake; a group of congressman; tried to amend the bill to add in a disclaimer that explicitly disallowed detaining US citizens without due process. AND it was overwhelmingly voted down!
