The TAZD and baseball-style standings are explained on my Wall. At least 35 regular games played in the month are require to qualify for the monthly TAZD. Shown are Games Behind, TAZD, and player name.

at 10:31 AM, Friday December 2, 2011 EST jurgen: that logic is exactly right. In the TAZD, having 0% first places will help you just as much as having 14.4% first places. Having 45.8% sevenths is just as good as having 0%.
Let's say someone plays 50 games. All seventh places. Wins a big freeroll, noobluck wins the grand finale or something like that. His TAZD would be 23807 just for the month. But, Jurgen- you don't need top 100 to be in the annual TAZD, you just need to enter. So anyone can be in that- including someone who just loses all the time. |

at 10:36 AM, Friday December 2, 2011 EST two points in skrums defense (wtf am i doing?)
1) the zero datum measures the skill of a noob, not an average player. so in the nfl, the zero datum would be something closer to 4-12 than 8-8. 2) skrum 'childproofed' the tazd awhile back when everyone made the same argument as jurg is making: you can overload the 7ths and easily win. however, keeping to standard skrum methodology, he refused to tell everyone how he childproofed the tazd. so much for the peer review process. he chose to see us all as schemers who wanted to defeat the tazd. wtf. all we want to do is improve it with simple logic. *********************************************************** one obvious discrepancy that i see is that you have to be in top 100 each month to get on the tazd for the month, yet for the entire year, there is no qualifier like that. hence grandgnu is running away with the competition because he avoids playing easy competition (what he terms as 'top table cheaters'... sorry mods, yall suck, and everyone who plays top tables is a cheater, but thats a different strawman.) anyways, point is that for the yearly, skrum is about to crown someone who wouldve only qualified for one monthly the entire year. ive never heard skrum explain this discrepancy. |

but OK, let's say 4-12 is zero datum, is a team with 8 - 8 just as skilled as one with 0-16? |

Guys, this is the TEST AGAINST ZERO DATUM......not the TEST AGAINST SKILL FOR ALL |

at 10:52 AM, Friday December 2, 2011 EST yup Rob, TAZD is undisputably THE test against zero datum. It's a great statistical tool and skrum's efforts to provide us with this monthly stat are extremely appreciated by the community I am sure, no debate there I think.
but this disucssion started after Vermont wrote "It's relatively high because TAZD isn't actually a measure of skill". |

at 11:08 AM, Friday December 2, 2011 EST In the first week, the zero datum is 0-1. In the second week, 0-2. In the 16th week, 0-16. In football, zero is a true zero. If you advance beyond zero, you can't be forced back to it.
