at 1:17 PM, Wednesday October 19, 2011 EDT I'm pretty sure less than 10% of the current protesters showed up because they read that post.
Saying OWS has a direct leader is like saying the tea party has a direct leader. Although the tea party is far more centralized than OWS, I'm sure you'd agree with that. I don't think the tea party could put out "official" demands either, given that they are a grassroots movement. By definition there is no officials, it's more like an aggregation of demands that the tea party or in this case OWS have come to, that ultimately defines what they want. |

at 1:22 PM, Wednesday October 19, 2011 EDT missed one of his posts in there, but whatever. the guy is still a dummy if he think OWS has any sort of centralization from which "official" that is officiated documents could come from.

at 1:25 PM, Wednesday October 19, 2011 EDT Listen, I'm just stating the facts as I see them. If you disagree; fine.
The facts as I see them is that Adbusters called for the protests; and they happened. Leaders are people who are able to convince people to follow. Clearly people followed here. They may not know the plan or the leadership; but someone spoke and they acted. It is clear that many showed up not knowing about the initial order; but the organizers, handling donations/funding, conducting the assemblies, organizing the camp, talking to press, etc; most of them came because of the initial post. |

at 1:33 PM, Wednesday October 19, 2011 EDT I dont know if you've seen that jason bateman movie Extract, deadcode. but if you haven't there's a scene where a lot of the workers decide the should form a union together because of collective outrage - so they try. jason bateman asks them what their demands are and nobody really knows what to do or say. then jason bateman tells them all to shut the fuck up and go back to work.
that's a movement without leadership. grassroots movements dont have leaders per se, you could call martin luther king jr. a leader of the civil rights movement because he organized protests and marches but at this point whoever called the original occupy wallstreet has no say or control over the actual occupants. that is to say they do not lead them in any way. You could argue that people are tryng to distinguish themselves as leaders of this very decentralized movement, for example #OWS's twitter feed. But this is a movement that's gone global and the sentiment is generally the same everywhere you go. I don't think the people that originally organized the protest can be called the leaders, and frankly neither does google or any media outlet. |

at 1:35 PM, Wednesday October 19, 2011 EDT also mlk jr. gave mad speeches and traveled across the country. i dont see any organizers of OWS doing the same, hence no official leadership. there's no officials, the movement is decentralized and spread across the country now.
