What I'm really trying to say is, gtfo and unban Fon. I'd say he's no different than the others in top 25 but actually he IS. He is one of the most fair players I've come across and I love his style. People should take him as an example, not ban his face.

well, in order to change it, you need the willingness of most of the top player community to change behavior on it's own. As long as most top players think that you have to play by the current strategies because otherwise you will only be killed by everyone else, nothing is going to change.

maybe mods don't ban enough to try and correct the overall favordice playstyle but you also have to realise that for every high profile ban that a mod does, there is always a never ending shitload of forum debate about it.

That doesn't need to be a problem, if a mod truly thinks something was worth banning, he should do it and accept the whining that comes with it. And there is room for criticism and debate so personally I don't mind the forum drama. Only I realised that it's not worth spending hours of discussions on it anymore, haters are gonna hate, whiners are gonna whine.

So the real question is, is the community ready for some attitude changes or not? The mods can change behavior of a few people that refuse to play by the gentlemen agreement rules about fair play but I doubt us mods can change an entire community without acting as a gestapo. Ryan doesn't want overmodding and he doesn't want any extra mods. So we are only a few mods, doing this for free and in the few hours we can find a week to mod.

So maybe we need to make a fair play codex, to try and define what is acceptable play. People can openly support it or be against it. I thought about doing this a few months ago but although it looks great in theory, I fear it will die in endless debates about finetuning all guidelines. Everybody will disagree about at least one topic since we all have our own typical playstyle and game ethics (regarding 2v1, weakflags, etc)

: There are a few who don't give a fuck, and those are the ones I respect the most. But I see them getting fucked hard every now and then just for trying to play fair. Furthermore if I decline a 1/2 offer, or a 'sit for 2nd' offer, from certain players whose name I won't mention, I know I'll get fucked. And I know it out of experience. Doesn't stop me from doing it every now and then though, so don't act as if NO ONE wants to have fair games nowadays.

: Bullshit. If all people get treated equally, and equal bans are handed out, the bullshitting on the forum will decrease as well. You know why there's whining and moaning on the forums now about bans? Because others people DON'T get banned for the same actions.

Next up, the thing that Ryan doesn't want overmodding? Well at this moment there is barely any modding. And the modding that is happening is worth shit (no offense).
The question you're asking yourself, if kdice is ready for an attitude change yes or no; how dare you ask such a lame thing? If it's obvious that current gameplay scares off new players and even scares off old players who are fed up with the way things are going around here, well I think that's reason enough to just pull the handle and say 'fuck this, changes ARE going to be made'. Yes, in the beginning there might be some moaning and whining, but it's for the greater good in the long run.

If you're complaining that your work is for free and that you only have limited time, that's the same as saying you truly are understaffed. There are enough people that would like to contribute to kdice not by paying, but by helping moderating it. And I know a few people who would do a great job as well.

Having the feeling that I'm ranting way too much again.
Hope you don't take this personally Jurg, still think you're doing an overall good job looking at the circumstances kdice currently has to deal with. This was just my 2 cents.

yeah that ban and other bans are way too long
and as with anything, if you're effectively punishing and correcting behavior then the consequences need to match up with the a action, deviant behavior, or cheating

everyone's seen that kid who's been punished so long that he forgot what he did...and when he gets off punishment...he does the same shit over again...

and consistency is key
but I do like the intermittent banning...but it should be a consistent punishment...

.

Sam really should have his mod privileges revoked. he's made way too many unfounded ridiculous bans to still be worthy of moderating. i can't think of any legitimate bans he's made or the last time he actually banned someone for PGA/staked out a PGA team.

Also the mod treatment is not equal in the slightest. If a moderator doesn't like you, they will conveniently forget to unban you until you bitch and moan about it. Not speaking from experience but rather observation and moderators explicitly saying this in chat (to monte or something).
