im confused.
in the midst of mad cramming for my boards this week, i left my wallet+keys+cell in a bathroom stall when i was changing into work clothes. yes, im an idiot like that. anyways, closely monitored amex and visa accts online, zero transactions since i lost my wallet. closely monitored verizonwireless, zero activity since i lost it. so i assumed that a good person must have found them and turned them into lost+found. checked with the lost+found office this morning: nada. checked with all the local security, no one knew of a wallet+keys+cell being turned in. so why would someone find my stuff, take it, but then not use it? theories? btw, im going through with cancelling all cards and getting replacement phone and other important stuff. so annoying. |

at 12:42 PM, Thursday September 1, 2011 EDT True story. One year leaving the Preakness Infield, one of my buddies from college found like $360 (cash only, no wallet or cards) on the ground. Obviously some drunk asses winnings from placing bets. After a trip to Eddie's we had killer supplies for a baller bbq.

I already completed the courses in Property, Torts, and Crim. Law... the courses related to this matter. None of my other classes for my remaining 3 semesters will cover these topics. I know as much about this as a law school graduate. The action in a vacuum is illegal, my action was not. |

I'm not saying you should have been prosecuted. I think most of us are simply saying you were a douche for taking the cash, whether the guy cared or not. |

at 1:48 PM, Thursday September 1, 2011 EDT oh ok. I can accept the 'douche' accusation. But he called me a criminal. He said if 8 years later I called the cops and told them what I did they would come arrest me.
Stated in what terms? The agreement that the person who finds the credit card didn't read or sign? |

at 1:57 PM, Thursday September 1, 2011 EDT you shmucks can post for the rest of the day that "omg fiero using someone elses credit card without permission is illegal". You can keep telling me what the law should be or what you think should be legal or blah blah blah blah blah. At the end of the day, the law is still on my side.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Using someone else's credit card without their permission is illegal if and ONLY if you have the intent to defraud. I had every intent to pay back the money if so requested as was evidenced by me telling him and giving him my address. Stop posting bullshit. It wasn't illegal. No greekboi. No das. No travis. No yodel. It was NOT illegal bros. |

"Credit card fraud occurs when purchases are made using someone else’s credit card or credit card number with the intent to defraud." Title 18 of the U.S. Code, Section 1029 provides penalties for this fraud WITH THE INTENT TO DEFRAUD. If the person shows a clear intent not to defraud the true owner of the credit card, the action is not credit card fraud and is NOT illegal. I am however responsible for any overdraft charges or interest accrued on the account based on my credit card use... all of which MUST BE REQUESTED BY THE TRUE OWNER. In closing, fuck off peasants. |

at 2:00 PM, Thursday September 1, 2011 EDT So let me get this straight...
I can go to a restaurant and snatch someone's credit card off a table.....go buy a big screen TV.....then mail the card back to the owner with a letter stating I'll pay the money back.....and this is OK? Wow, our legal system really is fucked up. |
