I didn't vote for him!
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-may-31-2011/distinguished-member-of-congress Shouldn't congressmen be smart enough to know you can't pick up young boys via twitter; without picking up national attention. Even if he was hacked; still hilarious and deserved. In other news; DOW -200; GOLD UP; Jobs Down; QE3 Coming soon; 'WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF A GREAT, GREAT DEPRESSION' - Yastraw Thanks Keynesians! |

at 11:55 PM, Monday June 6, 2011 EDT BO; I'm aware of who Barry Goldwater is. He was very successful at reshaping the GOP in the 60s. Unfortunately the religious right became very powerful and he wouldn't cow toe to them so his election results were terrible.
But what is your point? That in order to be a good political leader he should have rejected his libertarian principles and become a devoted religious candidate? So if you are comparing me to a man of principle who lost an election because he didn't agree to compromise his values; then it's a compliment. Remember this BO; the ENDS do not justify the MEANS. Lying and cheating for a win in life doesn't make you a winner. Also BO; lol @ the comment on my experience. Once again; I'm many years older then you. I have a career. You are a college student (still? when do you graduate?) and have yet to work in your field. Its silly to lecture me on experience when you have less of it. |

Having an extramarital affair (which is not even what happened here) doesn't have to be considered such a shameful, catastrophic moral failure. The discourse of "cheating" is a distinctively American, self-righteous and annoying interpretation extramarital sex. Other cultures have a far more graceful and sophisticated approach to the issue. Something like 60% of married people (both men and women) "cheat" on their spouses at one time or another. I'm not cynical; you are simply naive. Also, don't be so quick to pass judgement on others' personal lives. You know nothing of his relationship with his wife. Perhaps they have an understanding. Perhaps they have an open relationship. Perhaps she condones his cyber-flirting. Maybe they are swingers. The point is you are in no position to make moral evaluations of people's sexual practices, desires, and arrangements. Monogomy is a narrow-minded, primitive cultural value. I couldn't care less if you ahere to it in your personal life. But don't expect others to live by it. |

at 10:44 AM, Tuesday June 7, 2011 EDT Boogy; please read Sam's post. I'm not sure how to rephrase that for a third time. If you still don't get it; i guess we will just agree to disagree.
I guess I take another effort at explaining this again (please read this boogy). I have no issues with him lying to his wife (if he did); that is between him and his wife. I have issues with him lying to me. He is MY congressman. I live in NY 9th District. My vote helps determine this mans career. I don't like being lied to. I'm not sure where you are missing this point. I've made it pretty clear in 2 or 3 separate posts; but you still keep on coming back to the moral implications of marriage. I'm afraid this conversation is becoming more about your qualms with marriage in general; rather then a conversation about dishonesty in contemporary politicians which it was originally intended. Perhaps we can also start a thread about the concept of marriage/etc and we will probably agree on a lot; but once again; my intention wasn't to talk about that topic in this thread. My intention was to show an example of how these guys react when they are caught in a lie. It is important for people like Boner Oiler to understand that both sides are basically the same thing; a bunch of crooks robbing your income (or future income in BO's case; not sure about your case Boogy). |

at 10:56 AM, Tuesday June 7, 2011 EDT No one has the right to ask him about his "cheating". So who cares if he lied about it.
Given the hysteria around "cheating" in our culture, ofc he lied. I would lie too. |

If he would have came out and said, "Oops how embarrassing. Didn't mean to post that picture"; I don't think it would be anything worth him leaving office over. Of course I still wouldn't like his politics but he was elected and he wouldn't have done anything wrong warranting him to resign. However now he has lied to his constituents and has most probably broken federal laws by using tax payer money to pursue these women (based on accounts from the women). |

at 11:15 AM, Tuesday June 7, 2011 EDT Boogy; I sense that this topic is hitting a cord with you. Is this based on your like for this particular politician or just your views on committed relationships in general?
Personally I have no issues with committed or open relationships. I think the individual should be free to make whatever choices he wishes in this context. However I think where you are missing my point is that this is larger then just one man and his potential infidelities. This is about all Americans and whether they are willing to accept this corruption and the inevitable result. |
