at 9:01 AM, Wednesday May 11, 2011 EDT just a few points I'd like to make
Monte is spot on, neither dug or buaka are friends, just people I have seen play (and talked to) enough to make me confident enough I can trust their judgment on this guy. That's why it's important to try and get at least one witness with a good reputation or someone with some medals or points. It's not that the word of someone new or unknown doesn't count to me, it's just common sense that I try to be as sure as possible about my decission. You have to remember that people will be banned or not based on such a report, so we want as little errors as possible (nobody wants to be banned based on the word of an unreliable accuser alone). The evidence in this case is not overwhelming so this is enough for a first warning + short ban but this would never be enough for something like a 2 week or longer ban "I guess its the best that can be done given the current circumstances." That's also very true (unfortunately). Ideally, I would love to do my bannings from things I wasn't able to see with my own eyes based on 99,9% credible evidence like official saved game replays or chatlog archives. I started writing a long mail about this (+how to set it up) to Ryan but lack of time has caused me to leave it unfinished as of now. Probably won't be programmed very soon but I think the point needs to be raised again. There are usually over 10 tables active and there are rarely over 2 mods present at the same time so it seems logic to me there needs to be a way for people to "store" evidence on the server for mod review because there simply will never be enough mod's eyes. In xsketch, people can save sketches so I don't see why we can't have a similar system with saved game logs (+ a simple game replayer). This system would also be cool to save some of your best games or best rolls. /end of off topic point I try to look into each reported case in the forum or in chat just so people can be sure that (some) mods take these reports seriously but it's also important to know that not all of these reports will automatically lead to bans. |
