""An anecdote I always like to share on the topic: "Britain sent al of it's convicts to Australia and all of it's religious fanatics to America. Guess who has a higher crime, divorce, and murder rate?""

Major Ashley-Pitt: In our experience, Americans are uncouth misfits who should be run out of their own barbaric country.
Matthew Quigley: Well, Lieutenant...
Major Ashley-Pitt: Major.
Matthew Quigley: Major. We already run the misfits outta our country. We sent 'em back to England.

BO are you high?
The link you sent me only furthered my point. I don't have 'preconceived' notions. Don't speak down to me and say things like 'basically it's not your fault' as if I'm uneducated. Look at what you send out.

The chart on homicide shows that African Americans were the offenders of over 36.5% of all homicides, compared to Caucasians at 32.5%. Further shows that African Americans make up 12% of the populations while Caucasians make up 79% of the population.
There's less than 1/6 as many blacks as whites, and the blacks still do more total killing.

Anyways, the argument stems from your snide quip about the prison population or some nonsense stemming from your belief that Christianity is a violent religion. Christians from England being violent or committing more crimes than the criminals sent to Australia. MY point was that it's not the "English fantatics" that are committing the crime and ending up in prisons.

"U.S. incarceration rates by race, June 30, 2006:

Whites: 409 per 100,000

Latinos: 1,038 per 100,000

Blacks: 2,468 per 100,000"

I know you didn't actually read this article, you just assumed that because I'm from the south, everything I say must just drop with blatant ignorance and racism. You were raised this way and so you don't understand how to argue properly or present evidence to support your case. Basically, it's not your fault.

Oh no, minorities, who are often at the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum commit more violent crime on average! Big fucking whoop, violence is inherently a socio-economic problem.

socioeconomically speaking, the hispanic/latino population has less wealth, but commits less violent crimes than the African American/Black population.

the point of my remark wasn't to accuse white english people who have a religious bent of being shitty people (in respects to the law) but rather i was accusing them of fostering an environment and atmosphere that to this day undermines the poor, dissident and downtrodden of society and they ultimately planted the seeds for a far more unfair and inequal judicial system. Especially in the south where these religious themes still pervade society.

only someone from Notre Dame, the school who hands out free degrees for publicity, would have an ingrained mind set that Christianity is in essence a 'perverse' way to live. This backwards type of thinking can only be something you were raised to believe. Basically, it's not your fault.

You cannot rationally argue someone out of a position they did not rationalize themselves into.

Racism is a good examplar of this issue.

In regards to Isreal: Yeah, pulling troops out of Gaza was a huge step towards annexation. Oh, wait....

lol, israel have pulled troops out of gaza many times before, and then invaded again a few years later.

maybe you can argue that israel is justified in their wars in gaza. what you cannot justify is the systematic underfunding of areas with mainly islamic citizens of israel. even the israeli courtsystem have said that it is discrimination and said it was illegal.

You do realize that although per capita our rates are higher in the 3 areas that you are trying to measure that Australia has about 10%> our population, who mainly reside on the coast, and not necessarily in 'large cities' with ghettos and a broken system constantly at arms with keeping them suppressed. Also most Australians will trace their ancestors to persons who committed crimes that would barely be considered misdemeanors in our current society. Can you tell me that stealing an apple in Piccadilly Circus was warrant for deportation to Australia? Boner, you need to open your closed eyes as realize you argue over apples and oranges.

I think that murder rates in large cities are in fact NOT related to religion AT ALL, but rather money, drugs, and land. Perhaps you have a retort for that? There are if any very few killings CURRENTLY in the name of 'religion.' Furthermore, any religious killings now, are less over race, more over homosexuals and abortion and are EXTREMELY isolated.

The first religious people to enter this country were quakers, and puritans. Neither of whom KILLED anyone in the name of religion, perhaps you should see how the Delegates from Pennsylvania even tried to avoid both the War for Independence as well as the War of 1812 to defend it. Much of the killing done on US soil was over land, and little of it ever had to do with 'converting the heathens,' much of which did not start occurring until what I would believe to be the start of the Victorian Age. Which if you go across the pond, the proverbial Pacific Pond, the Australians were busy trying to 'breed out the black' in the locals, using religion to send children of mixed race birth to be converted. There were ESTABLISHED programs from the british government as well as the church where children were forcibly removed which occurred until approximately 1969. Boner, you are SORELY misinformed both about religion and examples that you use to further your own weak arguments...

Boner is actually completely right about religious people viewing the poor with disgust, and hardcore Christianity is one of the reasons that our social safety net is so shitty, but he's completely wrong that the US is a violent place because of religion.
