I played a game againts all bots. It was slow and laggy, and the bots were dumb.

The only reason I signed up is to play elo, and it was to frustrating to play so I gave up.

"We call our virtual currency "Fuel". Fuel is measured in a unit we call the "Lit". Lits may be earned by activities such as signing up, by playing games, or

can be purchased through our store

. Lits can be used to

buy

skills that give your game playing an edge. Each skill provides players with a small boost that can swing a game in a player's favor.

In our store we sell four skills:

Four Leaf Clover skill for better luck;

Rocket Booster skill for a points boost;

Piggy Bank skill for better stacking;

and Square Die skill for better starts.

We have designed the Fuel system to help players power up the Elo ladder. "

hehe. they make you pay to evade the bad luck both in rolling and in stacking.
ryans game upsets me soo much, but at least I know im being fucked by bad luck not by the opponents paying $$.
im disgusted, i think. but maybe im not getting this.

I've known about that beta game for a few months and tried it out a bit. It's not that bad at all but somehow it keeps conflicting with my KDice habbits ... site buildup is logical but still feels odd, the chatbox isn't where the KDice chatbox is and stuff

very important PRO for Cxion: they do have an edit button in the forum!!!! and games with less than 7 players is also something so easy and logic to do (and something that people have asked here for for soooo long).

Much of it's success is gonna depend on finding enough paying customers that will come over because they seem to be willing to listen to demands from their community regarding improvements. If they can keep developing new stuff and caring about their players, I think they have a shot.

the "powerups" you can buy are an interesting approach and it's very clear that nuf, mikey et al have a much better commercial idea in mind compared to Ryan. But it's very dangerous to go that way, that approach really is all about buying some extra wins. Whether or not your people that wanna play for free are going to want to stay and enlarge the player community in a competition where you don't fight with the same weapons is a big unknown factor to me.

I think, if this game starts gaining momentum, it might be a win win for both sites. It's true that they both aim for a different audience (although lets not kid ourselves, its only in part, they want/need part of the kdice people). Some competition is never bad and maybe Ryan will start coding additional stuff here if he sees that's what starts drawing people to the other game.

Also, maybe the paying powerups on Cxion will make people appreciate the almost for free Kdice more. Sure, members get free points in members tourneys but at least in all other games, people fight with the same weapons.

if they learned anything from the c0nflict experience, it should be that gameplay/lag/design/whatever are NOT the critical piece to success. the all-important thing is to develop a community. thats what kdice has a 4 year advantage on. kdice will keep going, especially if you can pay for powerups over there. the mass internet populace will NOT pay to win.

but if they have developers that will stick with the project for a couple years at least, then maybe they can gain some momentum, but in c0nflict, rnd just gave up pretty quick.

anyways, ill always stay true to kdice because of the community. the gameplay is simple/dicewars, the lag is minimal, the coding, well... yah, the coding is average, the moderation is as good as it can be for as few moderators we have... but the community keeps me here no matter if all the rest sucked.

Haven't checked it out yet, but I used to play a web-based "strategy" game that had that issue... anyone could buy extra turns, and this was the key difference between top 3 and nothing.

So the same handful of guys were always dumping money at the end of the month for position, and screwed anyone that tried to play straight.

I don't play there anymore, and I don't know anyone that does.
