at 2:53 PM, Tuesday November 10, 2009 EST Since a dog has made a post to this thread, I offer this question: how does medical care for animals compare to that for humans in regard to increase of costs, length of wait, cost of insurance, etc., in the U.S. and in other industrialized countries?

at 3:28 PM, Tuesday November 10, 2009 EST it doesnt compare at all because health care is about ethics and the only animal that understands the concept of ethics is the human.

It does compare because there is a market for health care for animals and there is a market for health care for humans. Ethics governs in those markets, and others. Is there no ethics in markets for automobile repair because cars do not understand ethics? Back to the question: how do the markets compare? |

at 12:16 AM, Wednesday November 11, 2009 EST I do get that the "industrialized world" is idiotic with this whole Universal health care thing however and that we are soon to join it. It's not a good thing however. Just one more lemming to jump off the cliff...

ok i was wrong saying that you cant compare it. of course you can. The major difference is that cars and animals(PETA might disagree) are someones property while a human being isn't. The owner of a dog is 100% responsible for its well being, it's different when it comes to humans. Of course one can argue that you own yourself and are therefore responsible for yourself. This, however becomes tricky when it comes to children ("sorry pal. you gotta die cause your mom cant afford the treatment"). The society you are born into (usually not by choice) with its set of laws and standards has some responsibility for its members and that includes an affordable basic health care. I gotta admit that it is pretty hard for me to make up my mind on that subject so im happy for any (reasonable) opinion. |
