WHO IS THE MOST SKILLED KDICER?

A contest based on *opinion clusters*

This shouldn't be a reflection of * raw facts *
such as trophies or earned career points etc..

This should be about the most competitive *player style* according to your opinion.
Since there are many ways how a player can be competitive in "modern kdice", I will suggest some categories which are usually considered to be important for kdicers to do well at the tables, in tournaments or even in a monthly competition.

It's usually a pretty controversial topic but let's see whose name will be named most often in the end. Remember: It's about the best player, so if you can avoid it, please don't name more than one player for each category. If it's really too hard for you to decide who is the best, then name two players (more will not be considered).

I suggest following categories in a random order (sorry if there might be some overlap):

(1) Best "comeback player"
(The ability to develop small bases/ turning bad starts/ bad luck in the first rounds into good situations. This is also linked with the ability to never give up, even when the chances of getting good results are low).

(2) Best "board reader"
(The ability of a player to know exactly what their opponents will do and using that "information" for their own benefit like making silent truces or forcing other players into making mistakes. Those players work like computers, calculating the best moves).

(3) Best "manipulator"
(The ability to make other players act for their own (the manipulator's) benefit, almost always achieved by using the chatbox. Communication is the most powerful weapon for those players).

(4) Best "social gamer"
(The ability to make intelligent alliances, truces and honouring them. This is also linked with the reputation of "social gamers" to be extremely trustworthy in all kind of situations).

(5) Best "marathon player"
(The ability of playing hundreds of games during a month while maintaining a "competitive style" and a high PPG)

(6) Best "end gamers"
(The ability to make no mistakes in a head to head situation (often 8v8) by intelligently calculating risk and chance of certain attacks).

(7) Best "tournament survivors" (The only category linked to tournaments only)
(The ability to make it to the final tables of tournaments by using the various tournament strategies, but basically focusing on surviving (also with the help of vflags). This is also linked to the ability to judge when it makes most sense to eliminate a low ranked player or to kill a player with many points).

(8) FINALLY: The best "TOTAL PACKAGE"
This is the chance for you to decide which category seems most important to you/
whose player's style is the best overall. This can also be the result that a certain player masters all or the most of the mentioned categories, while not actually being the best in a specific category, this player's style often ranks among the best most categories).

bump.

Maybe we could have 5 more?

Especially the opinions of people who have already been mentioned frequently by others would be interesting such as MadHat_Sam, dasfury or Shadolin.

while i don't disagree with any of the player picks posted so far, i would argue that most of these categories (1, 2, 5, 6 and 7, in my opinion) can be summed up as "doing the right thing in the right situation". there are times when you build and there are times when you're aggressive. i hate to say it, but there are only so many different strategies you can employ in kdice, and most of them can be categorized as strategically unsound.

this said, my personal belief is that #s 3 and 4 are the most effective skills you can employ in kdice. each of the other skills leave so much up to the luck of the roll and the chance that an opponent may or may not just go crazy on you.

I second existensials first post in regards to some of these points are kinda come from the same basic skill.

Here is a list of the top of my head, I leave others to rank where they think I sit.

1. dasfury - not much more to be said about the ability to sit and be patient with a small base and win. The classic "das stall" tactics etc.

2. leekstep - love him or hate him, he is very astute at knowing who is a threat to him if he has a chance to win and where to move his stacks to prepare for that battle when it comes.

3. montecarlo and his protege JeremyS - montes skills have been minimized as his style of play has become endemic but he revolutionized social strategies in the post elo era, too bad this has really reduced the competitive nature of kdice. Fuck you montecarlo/JeremyS and those that follow your footsteps.

4. Johnson213, moondust, diceygirl etc... - This isn't based on the OPs criteria but more based on who didn't play to win but played to make sure them and any friends they had did well. Just annoying, whatever.

5. lastmurti - multiple accounts in top 25, sure you can argue how competitive the games he played were but he played alot and played well.

6. Petomni - fuck I hate this douche, would always begin the endgame fight 1 or 2 rounds before anyone else was ready, he just knew when to strike. Plus he seem to have decent luck and played well.

7. moondust - fuck you, you play like a cunt in tournies and I would call in to question the ethics of your play considering others have been reset for doing what you do, but you do it well.

8. rnd - didn't do it fairly and didn't care who he used but combined the skills with the off table relationships to dominate when he was around. Still stops by and does well until he gets booted again. This isn't about best game play or best social skills but about the ability to combine whatever he is given and do well with it.

If we combine all opinion clusters, it becomes obvious that dasfury got the most points (19), followed by montecarlo (16) and MadHat_Sam (15)

At the same time dasfury and MadHat_Sam are the only players to win two categories, while MadHat_Sam probably won the most important category (8).

It is also important to note that dasfury didn't actively participate in the voting, so the result apparently lacks some objectivity.
