It's stupid to make kdice more about tournaments, and less about individual games. ... Players who have been crap at the game and have no skills suddenly get top 25 due to being lucky in one tournament. Any thoughts on that? |

Perhaps the best statistic for melding the scores of tournament/nontournament players and members/nonmembers would be to use the score game equivalent (SGE) statistic. This statistic answers the question: how many games (regular plus tournament) would I have to have played for my PPG to match my total score? I have computed such a statistic for all players with positive PPG's, and compiled a statistic called PPRSGE (Points Per Root Square Game Equivalent). The following is a ranking of the top 100 by PPRSGE. Those with a negative PPG had their PPRSGE's set to zero. To calculate your PPRSGE, multiply the square root of your score by the square root of your PPG (unless the latter is nonpositive). Rank Player Score Games PPG PPRG PPRSGE 56th digdug 9.821 2 3660 5176 5995 61st nuflis 9.277 5 1355 3030 3545 2nd jpc4p 39.010 137 263 3078 3203 4th dasfury 34.389 97 193 1901 2576 18th mr Kreuzfeld 21.218 45 172 1154 1910 8th xy< 26.756 124 118 1314 1777 10th MadHat_Sam 25.152 52 114 822 1693 74th bcmatteagles 7.890 3 359 622 1683 1st Rorschach 50.837 62 52 409 1626 35th Cascanueces 13.733 7 141 373 1392 5th Flying Dutchman1 31.012 203 61 869 1375 36th AMO 13.579 105 130 1332 1329 24th El Destructor 19.059 204 88 1257 1295 20th Dancerr 20.902 89 79 745 1285 43rd Chris0123 12.304 76 133 1159 1279 13th Dr J 24.270 244 55 859 1155 33rd Zosod 15.163 143 82 981 1115 39th FriendlyLassy 12.999 72 93 789 1100 14th CuteKittens 21.726 278 54 900 1083 15th captainLAGER 21.578 130 51 581 1049 28th sexecutioner 18.259 121 57 627 1020 37th moondust 13.172 93 79 762 1020 17th {A}Monkey SLayer 21.356 451 48 1019 1012 22nd Maxou12 19.646 252 52 825 1011 50th Revilo 10.807 126 86 965 964 67th Zergme 8.215 65 105 847 929 12th Embair 24.450 156 33 412 898 19th start1 21.185 158 37 465 885 49th Zyzas 10.895 159 68 857 861 25th nexon 18.911 184 36 488 825 9th bsn 26.039 357 26 491 823 21st lastmurti 20.432 300 33 572 821 41st Holy diver 12.458 76 52 453 805 62nd Vermont 9.243 43 69 452 799 57th pizza_the_hutt 9.662 140 58 686 749 34th snmlmz 15.121 380 34 663 717 46th fiero600 11.468 96 44 431 710 29th ManOMan 17.515 275 27 448 688 42nd MikeMike83 12.368 187 37 506 676 58th yellowfin 9.523 205 46 659 662 73rd Pixel-Dust 7.893 142 55 655 659 70th riser 8.060 113 52 553 647 38th Hushh 13.044 142 31 369 636 27th riccardo 18.273 557 22 519 634 53rd miguelz262 10.180 107 39 403 630 6th StudiousGangster 27.511 272 14 231 621 82nd tstj 7.208 151 47 578 582 54th Honyo 10.027 179 33 442 575 7th fcuku 27.148 191 12 166 571 40th gaaru 12.723 331 25 455 564 44th tty_csu 12.054 354 26 489 560 90th Simmo3k 6.911 161 43 546 545 84th Masi R 7.045 174 42 554 544 63rd Thraxle 9.091 108 32 333 539 85th Baino 7.031 175 40 529 530 93rd pityu 6.785 157 40 501 521 100th Henrik 6.618 167 39 504 508 96th habit1 6.661 191 37 511 496 92nd mrRo 6.789 130 34 388 480 91st Stan Marsh 6.895 13 32 115 470 32nd franklyghost 15.341 213 14 204 463 3rd The AntiTruce 35.603 364 6 114 462 86th Faerish 7.014 234 29 444 451 89th gator2000 6.945 163 29 370 449 65th MadWilly 8.824 232 22 335 441 88th Macool 6.977 93 27 260 434 98th longhair 6.631 253 28 445 431 60th MsCat 9.462 215 19 279 424 23rd detenmile 19.342 185 9 122 417 68th cnkcnk 8.175 272 21 346 414 51st Bombardier DS 65 10.601 211 16 232 412 52nd stakaboo 10.388 255 16 255 408 81st jetsjetsjets31 7.221 344 23 427 408 99th ZIGIBOOM 6.629 305 24 419 399 66th rigor mortis 8.659 80 18 161 395 87th Hardcoretraceur 6.998 195 22 307 392 80th zzaazz 7.309 235 21 322 392 16th Extasy 21.426 118 7 76 387 79th BreakYoSelfFool 7.368 283 17 286 354 83rd Dice! 7.130 229 16 242 338 95th sarajlija32 6.676 485 17 374 337 75th Yce 7.886 200 13 184 320 71st Schotte29 8.056 403 12 241 311 45th just_jack 11.591 233 8 122 305 78th ProxyCheater 7.508 228 11 166 287 94th Serendipity 6.760 348 12 224 285 69th panzer 8.134 496 9 200 271 76th maurum 7.863 202 9 128 266 64th oilking 9.020 372 7 135 251 31st fandango1 15.430 297 4 69 248 55th behemot-85 9.921 102 6 61 244 47th dr.rd 11.417 957 4 124 214 26th Baz_Eagles 18.449 447 1 21 136 77th grodriguezbm 7.647 234 -3 -46 0 72nd Sin City 7.909 213 -7 -102 0 59th toad92 9.502 192 -16 -222 0 48th Rsquared 11.136 87 -42 -392 0 11th absolutgimlet 24.979 68 -3 -25 0 30th montecarlo 15.731 66 -10 -81 0 97th end1 6.660 32 -16 -91 0 |

at 11:33 AM, Monday December 1, 2008 EST Interesting stats skrum............as usual.
But if the desired result is still the most points accumulated, there needs to be a difference between tourney points and regular points. |

at 11:40 AM, Monday December 1, 2008 EST I agree with a lot of what Moondust and Wishbone are saying about over-emphasis of tourney points...
However it is proper kdice protocol to congratulate the winner of the month. (I am not engaging in a debate on whether the win is legit I have not watched any of his games this month so I am not in a good place to pass judgment on Nix's month) Rhors/pho/phoenix37 congrats on the Win!!! You have worked hard for months. You have been working hard from the beginning of Kdice to get first in various accounts. You have both played very aggressively (look at most aggressive player from earlier months) and you have also cultivated the relationships that you needed over time. Although I know a lot of people were dissapointed by Rhors/pho/phoenix's win because they felt Ryan was limiting their ability to play this month he still deserves the traditional congrats. Is Rohr to blame for inequities -- perceived or real -- of the Luck generator? In other months many people have congratulated their opponents. And many other months people have done 'Whatever it Takes' to win. However I remember back when pga seemed legal -- a long time ago -- and Pho/rohrs was known as a horrible Pga player who 'took more than he gave.' Did he become a great PGA player overnight? Again, I didn't watch the month so I don't know. He has been a long time member of the community (old OLD school as old school as a lot of the players in the top 25 all time) and deserves respect due to a player who has put two years of effort to win a month. --Mike Y. at 11:42 AM, Monday December 1, 2008 EST Why should there be a difference between tourney points and regular points? You use regular points to buy in and the amount of tourney points you can get is limited according to how many regular points you put at risk. Bonus points are adjusted for in an increase in the SGE.

at 12:23 PM, Monday December 1, 2008 EST Well, I can't avoid writing a longer post either...
P.S.: I would never devaluate a monthly win, it's really hard to win, believe me, but I tend to agree (surprisingly) with moondust and wish, tourneys have been overweighted in the final outcome, in fact, a lucky+skilled player could have won yesterday starting from scratch, and it seems kinda unfair for players who have been fighting their places the whole month. |
