new idea for flagging.

think about it.
why is it that, whenever someone wants to flag, they only have the option of flagging for whatever position they are currently in? the three main reasons why people flag, currently (although correct me if i've missed a couple) are: 1) they have no chance of doing well / have been screwed over, and want out 2) they want to prove to whoever's in a higher position that they aren't a threat, when the higher placed player would otherwise feel threatened and concentrate his/her attacks on them 3) they've just ninja'd and want to say "flagged" in the chatbox, and whine if anyone attacks them that they aren't "respecting flags" we've all had our fair share of the third kind, and, basically, they're really annoying. and i believe, although i may be wrong, that the second kind is why the new flagging system was originally implimented. so how about if players were given the option to flag for any place (bar first, obviously) ? this would /not/ mean that they "deserved" that place, simply that it was the highest they wanted to get in that game. this would pacify higher places, mean that players could make it completely clear what they wanted to get out of a game, and also give people the option to get out if they didn't want to be there any more. what's more, it would also save us the annoying situation of being third by one stack, having second flag, and first then take you out because you "haven't flagged", when all you wanted was a decent shot at second. |

at 11:24 PM, Monday March 3, 2008 EST The problem is higher level tables use flags differently than lower level tables and we are trying to have one flagging system work for both. At high level tables, Sophie's option 2 is what respectable players use (within reasonable circumstances). Low level tables, option 1.
Make 2 boxes, you can click which ever one you want while in a game, option 1 or option 2. Or click the option 2 box and when it goes disrespected you can then click option 1. I just got bitched at by beals (the bitching at tables he isnt playing a game at guy) for suiciding out because I had top dom and was ganged up on by 4 ppl. The only way to save my dom was offer small easy stacks to them so I could flag for 6th. |

at 1:03 AM, Tuesday March 4, 2008 EST The current system is just slightly different then the old old system, we need to go back to the old system. You flag when you want to surrender not before. If there was a reasonable way to implent the 2 flagging system, okay go for it.
I respect flags that I feel should be respected, this means I might respect a ninja flag for 2nd if I think it is worth it or I might eat that person if I feel I need those lands to win. The only person that gets to decide whose flags matter is the person with the power to enforce flags or the person with the power to orginize the table in revolt. Whinning is a useful tactic but to many people are taking it to a extreme and instead of playing to win when possible they flag early and whine for position and end up getting screwed over by someone willing to fight. Roll the dice, it helps you win. |

lol @ sunvic =) i think that a flag NEEDS and MUST be implemented that allows you to get out of the game instantly because there have so many games where i have wanted out in 6th or 7th to save points but cant because im in a higher position...i am not the first and most definately wont be the last... other than that i think this system works as PGA's are easier to spot and as long as the flag is appropriate, (and players can be trusted) then this works if option 3 in sophs original post arises in a 0/100/500 (to an extent)game im am 'playing kgod', i find a "STFU, i decide who gets what" or "WTF u daft c**t, u ninja'd and are too thin to hold that place" etc usually works...make an enemy cos chances are i wont play them again. speaking of flags, i have a scenario i was in yesterday i think should be shared... i was in a game where 1st, 2nd and 3rd were established and flagged. there were 5 players left. i was currently in 5th and fighting beepa for 4th. we were of equal size or there abouts and he flagged 4th...fair enough but he has to hold me off right? 1 round after beepa flagged, ceaphus (1st) attacked me! why? "cos i werent flagged!"...GAYDAR alert! my response was summit along the lines of "how the fuck am i meant to fight for 4th if im not in the game dipshit???" i take those on the chin cos he was essentially playing kgod but, correct me if im wrong, that was poor ettiquette? anyways, back on topic what shev said |

at 4:12 AM, Tuesday March 4, 2008 EST the 'two flags' method definitely sounds like it would be an improvement on the current system. it would probably be useful to include an "are you SURE you want to flag" popup for the getting-out flag, though. you can just imagine the whining if someone clicked the wrong flag accidentally and was whisked out of the game instead of flagging in second....

at 4:48 AM, Tuesday March 4, 2008 EST Integral's Post is the the most correct, It basically said everything i wanted to say in 5 or 6 lines, and whilst everyone can slander the new flagging style, it's actually the method of thinking by the people who play the game that is wrong.
"Deserve" is probably the funniest word i've heard said here, why people they think they deserve anything is beyond me, literally, I think less of the people who say this out loud or imply it. But i'll give out these "cake pieces" when I am in first and if someone even mentions they "deserve" a place, they are the first to go. Hypocrisy? not really, only on the surface. It's the only way to combat it, so what if they pge you, you beat them, they are your bitch. Flagging is philosophical and until Ryan clearly states ( all 42mb worth of it, text ) how flagging should work, you make your own rules, but please, follow mine. On a second note, to everyone who types a smilie ie :P, :D, ^^, :) after asking another person to move. Either 4v5 their fucking ass or shut up, it's not cute, it doesn't work and you are still an asshole. |

at 7:04 AM, Tuesday March 4, 2008 EST i disagree with that one, actually. the early in-game truce is one of the best things about this game. it's much easier to get on with someone than to, what was it, "4v5 their fucking ass"
