new idea for flagging.

think about it.

why is it that, whenever someone wants to flag, they only have the option of flagging for whatever position they are currently in?

the three main reasons why people flag, currently (although correct me if i've missed a couple) are:

1) they have no chance of doing well / have been screwed over, and want out

2) they want to prove to whoever's in a higher position that they aren't a threat, when the higher placed player would otherwise feel threatened and concentrate his/her attacks on them

3) they've just ninja'd and want to say "flagged" in the chatbox, and whine if anyone attacks them that they aren't "respecting flags"

we've all had our fair share of the third kind, and, basically, they're really annoying. and i believe, although i may be wrong, that the second kind is why the new flagging system was originally implimented.

so how about if players were given the option to flag for any place (bar first, obviously) ?

this would /not/ mean that they "deserved" that place, simply that it was the highest they wanted to get in that game. this would pacify higher places, mean that players could make it completely clear what they wanted to get out of a game, and also give people the option to get out if they didn't want to be there any more. what's more, it would also save us the annoying situation of being third by one stack, having second flag, and first then take you out because you "haven't flagged", when all you wanted was a decent shot at second.

Great idea,

I had been planning on poasting an idea to have two flags, one for the position your in, and another to just quit, but this idea is even better.

This idea also gets rid of the annoying circumstance where you mean to flag for 2nd and it switches to 3rd as you do so.

I would like to see 2 separate flags implemented. The first would be the positional flag, as it exists now. The second would be the "I quit" flag. There have been many games where I would have quit several rounds earlier and would have retained more points, but was unable to because I was technically in a higher position than what was actually attainable.

Yeah, what Pat said.

Since the new flagging system has been introduced games are shorter. i remember endless games in december where 5 players were totally stacked up and nothing happend for several rounds. thats why i like the new system more.

a second flag that kicks you out at once would be nice though. or something to trigger a forced resign. in that way you can keep your dom when you become a victim of a cows revolt.

My biggest problem with kdice right now is this idea of entitlement. I'm hoping it's just a phase, but this phase has been going on for a while.

People always feel they "deserve" things, as if places are given out like pieces of cake. I mean sure, if I'm first I will gladly dish out places like cake to people who I feel "deserve " it. What do I care if they flag to me.

While whining is a great tactic, and I will employ it when I think it is necessary, I believe too much emphasis is placed on it as a tactic and not enough on rolling the dice.

If people want to play a game like this they should play kdrawstraws.

I GOT THE LONGEST STRAW, PWNT!
