"PGA detector" ruins the fun

Last night I played 5 games in a row and had three 1st and two 2nd's. After that I couldn't sit with Chris for the whole month. (BTW: I played all these games sitting purple, the royal pimp army was on fire!)
After hearing about Chris not being able to sit with 3 ppl already and the "PGA connection" between Fin and Sam, I started to wonder. Ryan, I think it is a good basic idea, but don't you feel that the likes of me , chris, MadHat and Yellowfin aren't your most notorious PGA-players out there? Two weeks ago you called me "clear" and now I am marked as a PGA player? Sam helping Yellowfin win seems even more outrageous to me... I fear that at this rate you can close down the 10k rooms next week, because most combinations wont be able to sit. The battle for 1st / TOP 10 / TOP 25 will be less exciting then ever, because in one week top 10 wont be able to sit each other at the (high stakes) tables. Some people might wanna reply on this thread that this gives perspective to newer players, but we all know who plays the high stake tables and who doesn't. Like I said good basic idea, but you should be able to review the cases individually or use a week instead of a month to bench (and punish) certain combinations. Yours Truly, Ss |

at 9:18 PM, Thursday February 14, 2008 EST There are already a number of people not able to sit with each other because there aren't enough people to play 2.5k tables or even 10k tables so they just play with each other, in turn they end up getting banned from playing with each other. At the rate it is going, 10k games will be rare.

at 12:59 AM, Friday February 15, 2008 EST I haven't played much as of late, but to me it's like this: If you have a PGA (pre-game alliance) it isn't fair to the other players. It doesn't matter if it's in the 10k rooms or the 0 rooms. PGA's are not fair. If you want to truce during the game over the chat, I believe that is part of the game and from what I can tell, it is still allowed as of now. The PGA thing sounds like a great idea to create fair games. If you want to gang up on people before the game starts, just find a buddy, go buy RISK, find some random strangers you and your friend don't know, then play them while never informing them why you never attack each other. If you want to truce from the first turn I think that's fine as well, but you've got to inform the whole table. If you do this it in essence drops the PG from PGA to make it just a good ol' alliance. Also, an easy way to avoid this is to not PGA....

at 2:40 AM, Friday February 15, 2008 EST I don't know the details how "PGA detector" decides who had the PreGame Alliance, but for sure it cannot analyse what's going on Before the Game, and it does not analyse the texts in the chatbox.
So it is not able to distinguish a PreGame Alliance from a DuringGame Alliance. |

at 3:46 AM, Friday February 15, 2008 EST I kind of like it! There may be some fall out and some psuedo innocent player may be separated from his or her buddy for a while, but is it worth it?
It does seem that there is potential for the PGA detector to actual focus on PERs (pre-existing relationships). This may be seen as good by some and bad by others. The real question is... is it good for the game? I say let's give it some time and see what comes of it. |
