Why Is The Scoring System So Poorly Implemented?

It's so ridiculous to try and make it to 1800 when you're at 1750 or whatever because if you do happen to get 2nd place you're usually against a bunch of 1500-1650 players and you win something ridiculous like 7 points.

But then if you're bumped out in 6th place you lose 30 points. It's just so freaking frustrating to keep getting close and get smacked down unfairly based on the terrible scoring system.

I've never pregame truced with anyone, but I can admit that I will truce mid-game or late-game.

I am obviously more likely to attempt a truce with someone I've truced with successfully before rather than an unknown player, if both are relatively equal in the current game (i.e. I could side with one or the other, both of whom might be a potential threat to my territory)

I definetely think truces/alliances and even backstabbing can make the rounds more interesting at times.

But pregame trucing at the higher levels can make it difficult for newcomers to those levels to be able to remain there.

Kudos to you for admitting how you play though.

You may notice that often enough in the 2000s (or at least occasionally), someone that just arrived is given special treatment to help them stay there.

I finally broke back into the 1800's, but it was pretty rough to do so. I got my first place when I needed it, and squeeked in with an overage of 7 points.

Then just took 2nd in my first round back in the 1800's. Hopefully I can move up from here.

Ah, the jackass who said that I was "average"

So, now that I'm back in the 1800 club does that suddenly make me better in your eyes? Or is this just some fluke?

montecarlo,

It is a refreshing first step that you have admitted to your pretrucing. The next step would be to repent of it. When the woman caught in adultery was brought to Jesus, he challenged the accusers, who all walked away because none was without sin. But he also told the woman: "Go, and sin no more".

oh no, please don't bring religion into this. The last thing we need to know is what "jesus" would do if he's last to act and has lost half his stacks.

Take the big 5 vs 5 risk early to ensure a secure spot or a quick finish? Or take the quick connect 3 vs 1 and pray others beat the hell out of one another first?

grandgnu:

This is your thread, so if you don't want religion in it, I guess that is up to you. But why do you bring it up now, instead of after monetcarlo's post?

There is a huge gap on the tables, but if you are a good player you can get over the hump into the 1800’s. Now, you are correct in saying that there is a huge portion of luck going into this game, but there’s no denying that skill is the main factor.

I was bad when I first started this game. Looking at the stats of my first account, XCBatman, illustrates this. In two months, my highest elo was a 1695. I didn’t even break 1700. That month, X LUCK X was third. I know Luck personally, and he started teaching me how to play. For those of you who don’t understand my subtlety, he told me what moves to make. He would literally type 4v1, 3v2, 7v5… and so on, for every move in the game. My account did better, that month I broke 2000. Did I break into the 2k tables because I was good? No. I still wasn’t good, but I was learning. At the end of the month I created a new account, XCRobin. That account I didn’t pga, didn’t need anyone’s help. I did that all on my own. The only reason that I could play, was because someone taught me. I managed to move past the 1500 tables for the first time on my own. The next month, XCRobin was as high as 2261, with 4th highest elo. And I did it all on my own. I created other accounts, to which I all farther than my first month. I have had three accounts all 2100+ at the same time on the 2000 tables. By no means am one of the top ten players in the game, I’m not trying to say that I’m better than everyone else here. I’m just trying to point out that I sucked, and I learned how to play the game, and I no longer suck anymore.

So the moral of this story is that you need to be good to get to the 1800 and 2000 tables. Everyone that is on those tables deserves to be there. I can recognize good play, not naturally as Integral or Luck can, but far better than I did when I started. If you want to learn how to play the game well, watch the 2k tables, since those people there for a reason.

If Integral can tank his account and less than 30 days later be 1st elo, even with the 300 point gap, other people can do it to. If Luck can earn three trophies with this X,Y,Z accounts in the same month, other people can too. The gap makes it tough, but people can do it.

To answer your question Grandgnu, no you aren't any better. I said earlier in this thread, if not in countless other threads of this nature, that I'm an average player. I fully believe I am better than you still so no, you're still average.

If nothing at all your 49% top 3 post is what solidified it. Of the past 2 months over 3 accounts, my worst was 48% and the second worst was 53%. Even on my dick around account (R0oney) I have 55% top 3.

You're average, when you sit at a table and people either think, oh boy this is going to be a tough game (I do this against RND, Kehoe, Tomster, Cleo and Jschelz) or maybe I should watch this game and see how people are doing right now.

At that point and that point only will I say you are good.
