What do YOU think flagging means?

i was having a little discussion about this with some other players. someone attacked while he was flagged, I said this wasn't very honourable, someone else disagreed :p
So what does flagging mean to you? -Do you surrender to the biggest guy, but still attack others to secure your position? -Does it mean you stop fighting completely, being happy with the lands you have, waiting until the game is over, and in return want others to stop attacking you aswell? -does it mean you'll keep on fighting as if your flag wasn't there, playing until everyone is dead/flagged? -Does it mean you'll sit there, making others believe you are harmless, then when you maxed out your reserves, suddenly attack multiple times and take the lead? -... If you'll all post what you think flagging means, maybe we can come up with a definite meaning for it, kind of like a Geneva convention for Kdice :p |

at 1:22 PM, Friday April 20, 2007 EDT I´m very happy reading this comments. I agree with most of them.
Under the "Help"-Section (Left bar) is explained: (or select "Surrender" flag underneath your icon, which will end the game if everyone does the same). That´s the technical function of this flag - nothing more, nothing less... And kdice don´t give more rules then these on the left bar. Of course the community makes their own rules of "good behaviour" or a "nettiquette". But noone should hear to these rules. Breaking them isn´t cheating, it´s only not so fine for the players´ reputation! So - what will the white "flag" mean? So it depends to the situation. You may flag to the leader, to your ally, or ´cause you lost all and hope now to survive longer then other antogonists, while giving the "flag"-signal will mean not attacking the bigger neighbour or the leader. But of course it´s ok to strike back in every case, when you´re attacked once. We had the same discussion two or three weaks ago here in the forum. Perhaps someone paste the results into the wiki? |

at 2:41 PM, Friday April 20, 2007 EDT Well a couple if days ago heres the position
Its me vs him ok. Im slightly better by about two 8 stacks and I ask for flags. The two little players (2 and 3 8 towers respectively) both flag but my opponent doesn't (fair enough) I leave the small guys two alone and fight my main opponent. Until he flags - Im a fair guy Hed still get 2nd with me Anyway I start winning and ask the two players if they will attack me. They say no and they're flagged so that I shouldn't attack them. The kdice gods wernt favourable to me though. And after many rounds I started slipping up. And I was 2-3 8 stacks behind. Suddenly one of the smaller guys attacks me and splits me (he has +20 dice for waiting so long) I was like "wtf? You flagged and I left you alone..." No reply :( Then when Im pretty done for guess what? The other guy unflags and attacks me too. Needless to say I got 4th. Good dom score but in the end it still hurts. Now to me flagging means very little. |

at 3:11 PM, Friday April 20, 2007 EDT People somehow want flags to have the force of a truce.
They don't. I will shun backstabbers, but not people who unflag and decide to go crazy on me. Why? Because It would be *my fault* for accepting their flag and not crippling them when I had the chance. Does anyone remember the old thread about "how to decide who to kill first"? Now it's all "OMG WTF I'M FLAGGED LEAVE ME ALONE KTHXGR8BYE" |

If they don't want you to attack them, they should ask for a truce. Right? |

at 5:09 PM, Friday April 20, 2007 EDT AS I have played, my view on flagging and what it means has changed. When I was a little nooblet, I flagged and hoped folks wouldn't attacke me, and tended to not attack those that had flagged.
Now that I have some games under my belt, I tend to announce what my intention is when I flag, ie: "I am flagging to teal, but will continue to battle for second place." This means that I'm hoping that Teal will not attack me, but that I intend to keep fighting the others for a second place position. Sometimes Teal will leave me alone, other times Teal will just keep attacking. I usually only do that if someone is obviously in a position that can't be changed without EVERYONE working together, which is exceedingly rare. |

at 5:40 PM, Friday April 20, 2007 EDT I have to agree with flags meaning nothing more than ending the game. I can't stand when I'm playing, trying to win and someone thinks I'm not going to attack them just because their flagged. If the games still being played, people should still plan on getting attacked. No reason to get hurt feelings, just accept it

Isn't that what truces are for? And how is what you did any different than a 1/2 truce? |
