I was going to say the ranking penalty for going out in the first or second round should be less. Maybe base it on total rounds. Or if you want really complicated, have it tally a formula with total rounds survived + territories held. This would also off-set last minute collusion where you SHOULD take second but take 4th with others holding one territory.

Some of the problem might also be at the user's end. check your cpu usage, close down all other programs, slot in an extra memory chip, check firewall settings, scan for spyware etc.
