Go Wahoos! I'll drink a Zima to your university's health tonight! |

at 2:02 PM, Tuesday August 28, 2012 EDT Pretty sure I was clear in both my posts that I did not know the answer; no assumptions made, or at the very worst none made without fairly clear caveats.
That being said, no one has volunteered another instance of a university turning down the opportunity to have Obama speak. I really was just curious if there was precedent or not. |

Don't feel like doing the legwork to look up an example. I can make other hypotheses instead. How about: Paul Ryan is actually a demon, physically manifested from the anger of uneducated white people. He doesn't have a belly button. |

Obama was a rock star in '08. He was on everyone's mind ESPECIALLY colleges like UVA which are more than a little bit liberal with their student base. You can call it an uneducated opinion. I'll call it an educated guess. |

at 10:05 AM, Wednesday August 29, 2012 EDT Usually you cite sources or have an upstanding opinion founded in something you've read, seen or heard whenever I say something regarding Obama. This time you choose to simply take the low road and call Ryan a belly-buttonless demon.
I rest my case. |

at 10:17 AM, Wednesday August 29, 2012 EDT Low road? I'm doing exactly what yall did. I said the assumption that this wouldn't have happened in 08 is (so far) unsupported but easy to make. It's most likely true.
Paul Ryan being a demon is also likely true. |

at 10:19 AM, Wednesday August 29, 2012 EDT What do you want me to cite? Polling numbers? IMO UVa's political leanings would be:
Student body: Slightly left Factuly: Overwhelmingly left Administration: Solidly right Same as it was in '08 Then again, I don't have surveys to support this, just my impression from being here/ working in higher ed. |

at 10:27 AM, Wednesday August 29, 2012 EDT I'd say more likely than not. Not definitely. Having him at the city non-uva pavilion makes too much sense.
Charlottesville is the overwhelming liberal population, not UVA. There wouldn't be any difference in the logistical reasons, assuming the timing with the start of classes were the same. So to have a difference would need to be some sort of support/enthusiasm/need to cash in on the movement that UVA would've reached for in '08...I don't think it would've happened. But like I said, the timing of it is a big deal. |
