at 10:01 AM, Wednesday April 11, 2012 EDT 10 KEY VALUES (From Green Party Website)
1. GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY 2. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY 3. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM 4. NON-VIOLENCE 5. DECENTRALIZATION 6. COMMUNITY BASED ECONOMICS 7. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQUITY 8. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY 9. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY 10. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY There is your answer. In my opinion, the green party doesn't really have a platform that addresses today's problems. Gender equality, social justice, diversity and feminism... sounds more like a college orientation than a political platform; IMHO. |

then I thought, maybe he's just trying to be provocative Almost every single person I know that has educated themselves of the green party values and work has converted and there's such a huge Green Party following in many other Western Countries...so you would think that it would carry over to the US. |

I'm sure he'd rather support a libertarian candidate but accepts the fact that a libertarian has to run under the GOP. Simply running as a libertarian has too narrow a view to appeal to a large enough % of the population to actually matter in an election. Same thing with the Green Party. Their views are too narrow. |

at 8:05 AM, Friday April 13, 2012 EDT I think DCs post perfectly answers the problem. The vast majority of American voters does not seem to have realised there is ecological and not economical problems on this planet.
Guess that's what he tried to say. |

at 12:50 PM, Friday April 13, 2012 EDT Louis the problem isn't that we don't see the ecological problems and focus only on the economics of markets. The problem is we often discount or ignore the effect of our economy on public goods and in general refuse to study or devise systems that would both allow for economic growth and sustainable use of the environment.
The two party system wouldn't be a problem if the fringes of either party didn't hold so much power. So the two choices that tend to be presented are NO GROWTH or ALL GROWTH FUCK THE WORLD, where much of the population is actually in the center of these two views. |
