If they have >5% positive difference between 2nd finishes and 3rd finishes it shows that they know how to effectively navigate the end game so that they end up with the most points possible.
Unless we are talking about tournaments, 3rd place is the last place that you want to be on the higher tables, and players with considerable experience know that and will do whatever they can to avoid 3rd. Take a look at the past leaderboards: http://kdice.com/monthStats/44806825 Starting from the top: Fonias Me Zoid (or at least I think it was zoid) Das Jurgen Savif Adcurtin Vohaul Etc. All of these players I would consider above average when it comes to end-gaming. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, the key to being a better player is to never take 3rd unless you absolutely have to. |

at 9:18 AM, Wednesday December 14, 2011 EST i disagree. the most rewarding spots imo are 1st, 3rd, 5th. the jump in points between 6 and 5 is huge. and the jump in tazd between 4 and 3 is huge. oh wait.
btw im rocking this month (for monte standards) 35% 16% 12% 16% 16% 0% 3% |

at 9:19 AM, Wednesday December 14, 2011 EST but really, i usually have more 3rds than 2nds because i tend to never try for 2nd. give me a 1/3 fight over sitting for 2 any day. that point gain between 2 and 1 is worth risking fights where youre at a disadvantage, and potentially going to be dropped to 3 if you lose.

at 9:58 AM, Wednesday December 14, 2011 EST In the end game, you should never be trying to get 3, ever. It's +10 +dom regardless of what level you're playing (unless there is no Dom obviously). The player has to try and transform/manipulate his way into 1 or 2. Either that, or stick around long enough and grind your way into 4th, 5-7 are the same as far as I am concerned.

at 10:59 AM, Wednesday December 14, 2011 EST The TAZD totally depends on how you've already done for the month. Sometimes first, seconds, and thirds will make your score go down, up, or stay the same.
Using it for determining a good player, which this discussion is about, is crap. |

at 11:01 AM, Wednesday December 14, 2011 EST from the top of my head, the 100 table distribution:
1: +212 2: +65 3: +10 4: -8 5: -27 6: -82 7: -100 1-2: 147 2-3: 55 3-4: 18 4-5: 19 5-6: 55 6-7: 18 so huge diff between 5/6, 2/3 and ofc 1/2. so i often risk losing 2nd to get 1st, and therefore end up with more 3rds than 2nds. and i will always grind to 5th. well hell, i always grind regardless, but grind most to get 5th. |
