The end of K-Dice... or the beginning of the end
Before you read on, for all of you imbeciles with short attention spans who don't like to read because the content strikes a nerve, and proceed to type the cutesy and 'I'm so cool' acronyn tl:dr ... just fuck off and go back to playing with yourselves... For the rest of you, read on... So once there was this gutsy player who dominated the game like most every other top performer. He had his own aggressive style, but like all the other top players, he favored his buds. Going back about 2-3 years ago, I personally was on the wrong end of his PGA fueled feeding-frenzy that lead to his victories. All the while, he was being as cocky as ever and making no apologies. (btw... I'm not hallucinating. I'm not speculating. I don't need fucking screen shots! I was there. I experienced it.) Sam was an asshole to those who were not his friends in his serious playing days. Off main topic background commentary... As I have said in past posts, favoring your fellow player is human nature. It is impossible to not favor someone after playing 50+ games with them. And if you're not favoring them, at least you're avoiding them(which is also favoring them btw) So I don't find it wrong to occasionally do a favor for a friend. ANY PLAYER WHO SAYS THAT THEY HAVE NEVER FAVORED ANOTHER PLAYER IS A COMPLETE LYING SACK OF SHIT. SERIOUSLY. While I have made numerous posts in the past regarding the types of cheating and the lengths in which some assholes take to win, I feel that subtle favoritism is inherent in the game. This is why a 'team play' module would be awesome. But after years of people throwing this idea 'out there' and Ryan not acting upon the demand, I realize that Ryan only cares about $ & hits on his site. By having imperfections in a game, you gain several hits per month on your site-especially, if you have a forum. Lets get back on topic... Basically, of the 4 types of cheating, favoritism or subtle PGA is impossible to stamp out. Back on topic... So this player who is 'holier than thow' is now a mod. He has been banning players left & right. He is actually taking out the players who are blatantly cheating. But to what end? For someone to be banned because they admit that they favor people openly? Seriously? I seriously believe that Sam is going though a MOD-Life crisis. Sam, look deeply at the motivations that cause you to ban some and not others (your buds). While, I believe that strict action is required to ban the repeated cabal style teams, banning people for admitting to favoritism is a bit harsh. In fact, I think Sam will need to ban about 90% of the old school players & 99% of the top 50 players for his crusade to be successful. He will succeed in wiping out an entire community of players, just to be replaced in the near future by more of the same. In summary, Sam I like the spirit of what you are doing, but your blade is cutting too many and cutting too deep. Look in the mirror. You Sam would not be here now if the same harsh measures were imposed on you during your medal runs. Peace out. |

at 11:56 AM, Sunday October 9, 2011 EDT I object to the assumption that there is 0.5 players in top 50 that don't do favors.
Other than that, there needs to be some sort of line which degree of favors is acceptabe - and that line is impossible to draw. Is watching your buddy backstabb that noob ok (vflags don't exist in the rules so a backstabb is fine for some...). I 0 turn trucing because you know each other and the map make it the best possible strategy fine? There is many ways - which can be tolerated (oocasionally maybe), which can't? |

at 3:23 PM, Sunday October 9, 2011 EDT I find DoubleDog's timing of his post interesting finding myself subjected to the dynamic on the 500 tables (again) just prior to finding this thread.
After the first few rounds BROWN effectively decimates a decent hold I quickly gained in the SOUTH east corner, so, I suicide whats left so he can claim the area leaving me a 6 stack piling up in the WEST south corner down in behind YELLOW. This all happens by around Rnd 3 and these two players have already declared their intentions and alliance. Red, green flag out fast, purps not far behind. Im (blue) basically left to sit in behind yellow, stacking, while these two voice their arrogant annoyances at Teal who's up north making some progress moving into them south. Brown and Yellows tag team into Teal leaves them both a little thin. Yellows restacks aren't doin much in my area, leaving him vulnerable. My 6 becomes an 8 with a few to spare so I move north into yellow taking out a 6 of his. The dialouge goes something along the lines of ... Al19:... blue... you dick Gangstrrr:... What?... You want me to just sit here?..I owe you no favoritism of any kind. Al19:... From now on blue you will be required to suck my cock Gangstrrr:... heh, I'll get right on that C'ptn Given the commentary, instead of merely flagging out, (most likely in other scenarios) I cut a swath making a dom grab right up in thru yellow's weak areas, thru him and up into brown's territory as well.... I immediately flag out. In the end teal loses out to them both. The final comments are ... Marcysch... nice truce yellow Marcysch... we done well I'm not complaining, because I dont care. It's merely why I continue to hover in around the 5k mark in points, leaving me to bounce up and down between the 100's and 500 tables, which I'm ok with because I've no interest in developing the "ties" and or associations needed to be accepted into the "gang" mob rule that's prevalent in the upper tables. Subsequently I havent been making any friends up there lately which Im also ok with. Furthermore, I've really nothing against the dynamic as whole either other than it just doesn't suit me. I simply find the whole affair rather unseemly (for me). Those who find some gratification from it (they must or they would not pursue and or maintain it so) I've nothing against personally, it's just not my thing is all. There's an ugliness to it I just dont find appealing. That said I do recall an instance where I indeed became trapped by this behavior, inadvertently perhaps, but involved nonetheless. The player SUCKYMODS was at our table having literally gone berserk being about as disruptive both in his moves and in the chat box as is humanly possible. The shit was insane. Of course without any "overt" mention of it, SUCKYMODS, nonetheless, found himself subject to "pack mentality" which cut him to ribbons in no time. Being closest and strongest I was responsible for most of the damage. SUCKYMODS did point something out Reds behavior (directly beneath me) who throughout all this had a "perfect" opportunity to make a devastating cut through me, which in effect would have crippled me from doing much of anything much less take down SUCKYMODS. And SUCKYMODS was right. Red, under ANY circumstances should have. Red didnt. Red just sat. The whole fiasco could not have been ANY MORE obvious. SUCKYMODS threw a fit. Not being able to refute his claims I found it horribly awkward. This stupid cunt was actually right even though he'd pissed himself all over the map vocalizing his irritation. All I could really muster up was a.. sorry man... you ended up "dead by big mouth" What aggravated this for me was I've always found Red (who remains unnamed) to be one of the fairest players I've EVER had the pleasure to be with on the tables, so much that I had JUST reviewed him as such on his page not more than A DAY OR TWO PRIOR. (which he acknowledged) During SUCKYMODS accusations, undeniably accurate, neither of us (Red or I) could say much. Red knew it, I knew it and I could not help notice how THICK it was in the air between us. The whole debacle really left a bad taste in mouth which I'm glad happened because it's helped me to keep that shit in check. As a result I'll never fair well on the upper tables I'm sure. Furthermore, I've really nothing against those who lean heavily on OTF etc. I do get it, even though I've no interest. Instead I seek out that ever elusive GG. The one you cant create. It just unfolds. It's tight, fast, usually accompanied with some unexpected turns coming to an unexpected but solid conclusion. There's generally some good comedy present. No one gets offended, most everyone comments on its uniqueness. Thats the shit that keeps me comin back.. Not points or accumulated alliances. |
