Long story short, Ron isn't as much a libertarian as he is a an anti-federalist. He's fighting a battle that was lost 200 years ago. Imparting more rights to the states doesn't make the country any more efficient, if anything it's regressive. And if you remember, we fought a bloody civil war over the issue already. The fact is, the only way you could think of Ron Paul politically is as an anti-federal libertarian voluntarist, as real libertarians basically are tantamount to anarchists. The flaw in libertarian thought though is that it fails to account for the fact that not everyone is perfect, ethical, moral, and responsible - that everyone isn't an ideal person. Or that there is even enough good people in society to locally police the irresponsible, unethical and immoral. Libertarianism sounds good on paper but in practice it can't work because of human nature. |
