"What exactly is the goal of the protest? Just wondering."

I would guess to start a movement that is similar to the tea party, without being rightwing.

people on the left and right and in the center are all fed up with bailing out wallstreet. but until now, the only movement against it was the teaparty. so since so many people can never get behind the teaparty, they needed another movement.

just to throw a maddison quote in here

"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in [....]; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. ...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."

just to add to that,
- debt is an instrument for control.
- nationalism is an instrument for control.
- national debt, leads to financial crisis, is an instrument for control.
- war is an instrument for control.

financial crisis can often lead to two outcomes other than back to normal. it can lead to tightening of the regulations to prevent it (often the wish of the people, since it seems like they often comes from greed), and it can lead to bailouts and loosening of the regulations.

and as in the US, BOTH of these outcomes can/will lead to removal of power from the people to the the power elite. because the power elite of big business is the same as the power elite of politics. so often the results will be that these groups combined gets more power, even if there is some giving and taking.

a financial collapse like this is making alot of money for many of the people that engineered it, most of the financial loss has been for the middle class and the lower class, so when the economy comes back, big business will have an even bigger share than they had before.

I gotta agree with chomsky here (abit), he says that in this financial system, money votes, not the people. If I had enough money, I could control a lot of the policies of USA, all I would have to do is a clever combinations of donations, lobbying and using my financial strength to manipulate the market, so that I could make any government seem unsuccessful, or successful.
I bet I could do this if I had access to about 2-3 trillion dollars, and the power elite in USA (lets say top 400) has more than the bottom 120 million, so of the about 55 trillion of wealth in US, the control probably at least 5 trillion.

I understand this movement, I bet it will be called communist by the media, but to have a real democracy, one has to have some equality of wealth, otherwise it just turns into wage slavery

Though we have more whizzy technology now than when the Constitution was written, human nature is just the same. People with power will bully others, whether on the playground, in business, or in government. That is why the Founders adopted a republican system with separation of powers and a system of checks and balances, not pure democracy. Have two Houses, one representing landed and capital interests, one representing the people.
