ok i'll just do it shortly here.

Yesterday, wishbone and I were playing the members afternoon. It was down to just us two at a table and there were 8 people left in the tournament. We dicked around for about 40 or so rounds trying to get a 5v8, but it didnt happen on either side. But someone from the peanut gallery said something about both of us putting on auto-end and seeing what would happen. So we did. Sam was watching this happen and just sorta laughed at it, as did most of the people who were still in the tourney. So I go do a couple of things run a couple of errands and come back and the game had ended. I just figured the script must have folded in on itself and just died, someone got the dreaded GetEvents failed error, or maybe we got modded somehow. But the tournament ended with me and wish in 7th and 8th respectively.

I come back to the chatbox just to see what was going on, and it turns out BR and skrum had decided those actions deserved a week long ban. Didn't make much sense to me. The mods were saying that apparently I had snuck back to my computer and flagged myself, then strategically sat out the next two rounds, which I didnt do. I came back to my computer after a few minutes and discovered that I was out of the tournament. The situation basically resolved itself. Wish and I were out of the tournament. Everyone else (sans fletch, who said we didnt deserve a ban) got points in the tournament; I really dont see why the other players would be complaining at all. I mean they could say I wasted their time, but isn't that really what kdice is about anyways?

I mean I could see it justifying a ban for a day and just telling me never to do it again. Which I would be okay with, but a week for giving other people free points in a tourney at the price of waiting a couple of minutes just seems kinda excessive.

which auto end turn script did you use?

hmmmm, I kinda unbanned before doing some work and now I read this.

I didn't know both skrum and BR thought this was so ban worthy.

I don't think it's simply funny and harmless but I also don't think it's that fucked up to need a first time one week ban.

If this is done in a game, it hardly affects people. Plenty of tables around. It's another story if it's say the only 4stack 2k table or something. Using this to block the 5k tables at the end of the month does impact KDice (preventing people to catch up) so that would fall in the same category as doing this in tournaments.

The problem with tournaments is that it affects other people other than the 2 people trying to break the longest game record or whatever.

If you do this for 2 hours, people are powerless to stop it and they might leave. Thus increasing your chances for a higher position. The fact that you didn't get points is beside the point since it could have caused people to drop out if it was continued for longer.

But anyway, we need a clear rule because although it can be funny for "some" rounds, this method needs to be kept out of tournaments. Sometimes people use autoend to negotiate the 1 2 outcome so there needs to be enough leeway to allow this. I am gonna say 200 rounds on autoend is plenty of time to decide. That should be like 10 minutes

So personally I would go for:

* using autoend or manually continuing a game without a real reason other than to stall is bannable. Using it in a regular game is OK(ish) unless it's an attempt to block the high stakes tables or a rare table type.

* first offense will be 1 day if no harm was done, 3 days if people left after a reasonable amount of waiting

* second offense will be a month. This does not need a gazillion of steps. This method shouldn't be used and it should be clear after the first ban.

* my personal cutoff for a ban will be 10 minutes of stalling or 200 rounds of stalling (whichever comes first)

* a warning after 5 minutes/100 rounds is advisable but not needed. If I stumble on such a case when already above 200 rounds, I would warn and give the players like 20 turns to stop it

PS: I am putting the bans back. Don't yell at me. Try and convince skrum/BR. I strongly advice them to make this 1,maybe 2 or 3 days max since no clear rule was there about this but it's up to them. I'll respect their call if it's reasonable.

but we were timing it, and it was ~1sec/round and according to people who were watching it went on to about 1000+. So that puts it at about 20 min?

jurgs has a level head about this, but if you want to get unbanned, then you shouldnt be appealing to him. he has a long history of never ever never changing a ban that was made by a different mod (unless mod = skrum, for obv reasons).

the only leg i can see you standing on here is that sam was there, sam witnessed it, and sam decided it was not banworthy. therefore, BR and skrum were not the initial judges here. they actually undid sam's implicit judgment, and banned you anyways. so maybe MAYBE you could use that argument. but i wouldnt bet on it, BR is not one to change his mind usually.

fwiw (not much), im with jurgs here, this is worthy of a slap on the wrist. regardless of the fact that everyone else stayed in the tourney, it did cause them to lose 20 mins of their life waiting for two bimbos to park their roflcopter. but a 7day ban? so laughable that i didnt laugh. anyone with any decent thinking brain would instantly realize there was no malicious intent involved.

yeah, I think this needs a moderate/well balanced ruling and it certainly does not deserve a shitstorm of discussions or insanely long ban times.

I tried googling for old threads on this topic but I gave up after a few tries

It's good that this is brought up though

It needs some clarity for the future and I think it should be modded if it oversteps the boundary of fun and changes into annoying or screwing people.

I think I will stick by the definition of the situations where I will ban (and the ban times) I posted in my last comment for now. But let's hope all mods could find common ground somewhere so I am willing to change my opinion a bit if needed.
