Green Jobs Swindle

A ton of that money that went to "green jobs" is now being found to be a pretty bad investment.

Go figure; the chinese are kicking our ass because their labor is less expensive and lower taxes.

FBI just raided one of Obama's favorite solar companies that he praised on the campaign trail. Seems they took 500 million in stimulus and now are filing for bankruptcy. Had to fire 800 or so employees too; wonder how much Obama claims he "saved" on this one.

If you would invest in a company simply because they put forth green initiatives then I commend you for your philanthropy. By the way, can I borrow a few hundred grand?

WORKING towards a goal and INVESTING towards a goal are two different things. No typical non-wealthy person is going to invest their money in something green (with less profits) than something that is going to make a lot of profits. That just doesn't make sense. However, someone may choose a career in a green industry, but that pays money.

Money makes the world go 'round.....no?

A company that is in the business of 'greening' our society stands to make a lot of profits if they are selling the right technology, good, services. Profits on a certain 'green' good may be slim because it costs more to produce a 'green' product. Green technologies are fairly new as are services that operate in certain industries.

Look at the design and construction industry as an example. 10 years ago there were a handful of LEED Consulting firms out there. Now that many cities/states/university systems have implemented LEED standards/requirements for new construction or renovation projects, there has been an increased demand for these LEED consulting services. Professional service companies are all about maximizing profits.

LEED is stupid, but yeah the amount of money you can make doing "Green" consulting is ridiculous. 300 dollar tab for 2 at Ruth Chris says one of the consultants we use was doing just fine. They should be considering we send 100k+ to them a year.

mmmm ruths chris. only been to 3 so far. one in washington dc was insanely good, doubt i'll ever have a meal that good again. one in taiwan was very good. one in richmond was average at best.

my theory on them is that it depends on the chef(s) cooking your steak. and the better chefs are in the higher-market areas (def not richmond).

I went to a Ruth's Chris in Philly that was phenomenal. We have one in Va Beach but I've never been there.

And I wasn't doubting the green industry and it's ability to be profitable, I was simply doubting KKKCCC's notion that he'd invest in green over a highly profitable company simply on his virtues.

Lots of people work for "Green" companies because they like the cause and accept a lower wage then a similar position in another sector might earn.

One of my biggest issues with Corporate America is the singular focus on short term profits and return on investments that you see, this is obvious in the nature of the financial system meltdown, the housing market bubble the dot.com bubble before that, Enron, MCI Worldcom etc etc. The desire and drive for results now and profit now and speculation on the markets with desire for returns now is destroying our economic health as a nation.

I loathe many people that talk about sustainability because they often talk about it in a manner that implies we all should go back to riding bicycles and turning our own soil over for our harvest. Seriously fuck these retarded hippies, I love the modern conveniences of our society and many of these can be enjoyed in a sustainable fashion.

If nothing, there are plenty of companies that are capitalizing on green initiatives. At the base, its nothing more than creating buzzwords and generating consumer hype and interest. At some point its almost too contrived, kind of like the some of the retarded 'holidays' we celebrate by purchasing gifts. See Valentines Day as a perfect example.
