Klinsman is and was an excellent motivator. He knows how to handle stars and get a good game out of them. If he has a group of well trained, skilled players, he can do a good job.

Coaching a team he failed in Munich as that is not his expertise and he does not have the needed knowledge (or a license).

His problem with the US-team will be that he does not have the bunch of toplevel players he'd be needing to play his sort of tactics. Looking at Barcelona you see the physics and the skill in ball treatment needed to play modern, quick football. As the US is not really interested in football they do not have the mandatory multitude of high class players (no offense intended).

And of course it is true, when he was doing a good job in Germany, he had Jogi Löw to back him up plus an after all not too bad and very big league to pick players from. He was the man with the needed publicity and charisma to cut of some old fashioned things and get new players and strategies going - these might have come from Löw though.
