its just like a lobster bake or a clam bake or a crawfish boil. you put all sorts of yummy things in a huge pot (corn, sausage, potatoes, shrimp, clams, lobster, crawfish, crabs) cook, eat and drink.

so its a bunch of random shit in a pot and you drink a lot haha. ill stick to the barn parties i think.

after they boil for awhile, you poor them out down the middle of a table on newspapers or wax paper or whatever. then you just start grabbing the food off the table, peeling the shrimp and dumping the shells back on the table. very low-maintenance meal, good times.

true stories:
I go to drop my sister off for a retreat for youth group. We are all sitting around waiting for people to show up, and I get invited to go, and since classes haven't started yet I said sure. While we're sitting around, the earthquake happened. We all went to mass, and the priest said "Not five minutes before the earthquake, I heard they were evacuating the outer banks and thought 'I'm glad they aren't going on a beach retreat.'"
So then we drove to the retreat site... at lake anna, like 10 miles from the epicenter. There were a ton of aftershocks, which of course all happened in the middle of the night. But yeah, it was fun stuff, especially since the major storm from the hurricane hit there last night and I got to chase it back north on my way home.

i drove through that storm yesterday on my way back to baltimore (with a stop in fredericksburg to gather the wife and kid) from williamsburg. what a massive sucker. went from doing 80mph on 95N to 5mph in a matter of minutes. knocked out a ton of power and made it hard to get gas. although it wasnt part of the hurricane that was once nasty front.
