Let me first say though that I fully support any women's decision to stay at home/not stay at home/do whatever she wants with her career/family/interests.

It's the acceptance of basic discrimination that makes me sigh.

Women, on average, work shorter hours, have less education and take breaks from working during their careers(children). They also tend to use more vacation and sick leave, on average.

Women that don't have children are paid comparibly to that of men IF they work the same hours and have the same education.

Statistics that show women's earnings in a bad light are very generalized and unreliable at best.

I mean it's similar to ageism, racism, or other sexism - you can validate your preference for another age, race, or sex with perfectly "reasonable" needs - doesn't make it right.

Like anything, any businessman should go into each stack of applicants based on their resume, education, etc...and not the demographic characteristics of the pool.

I'm sorry I have to post on this as a female small business owner. (Also funny that you would post something with typos in it...)

I work with a lot of younger people, and the women are just as successful as the men. I found like the article that people without children were very equal and actually quite competitive with each other as well.

However, when I am looking at people for the core of my business, specifically managers, women with children tend to not last as long in management positions or work as hard to move up. Fathers with children tend to really want to excel as the bread winner (sometimes to the point of unethical even).

I'm all for women getting paid equally and all that stuff. I mean I'm a hardworking woman and I want the same opportunities that my male counterparts do. So it is painful to say this, but as a business owner you do have to factor in kids. I can't afford to take time out of my schedule whenever to train a new manager in (takes 3-6 weeks to fully train more for an office manager).

Ps I have had 4 female managers in the span of the last 3 years who bailed on me for their kid/s to be house moms. I firmly believe it would be more if I hadn't started taking that into account in my promotions. And if you include receptionists that number climbs dramatically. (Though never hire a male receptionist).

So yes I agree with this article. Also daughter your plan sucks. You'll never go back and you know it :P, but that's fine because women have that responsibility and gift that no man can ever have.
