Flagging someone means you finish below them still, right?

Unless something's changed - has it?

If person A flags person B and then person B starts to fight person C, if person C wins, A flags below B...unless everyone agreed that it was a 1/3 fight, right?

A and C don't get to claim it as a 1/3 fight, unless B agrees.

Also, A doesn't get to say "oh well now I truce C, and truce>flags" because truce>flags only holds true when honoring what place to put people below you in - i.e. rewarding truce partners. It doesn't nullify your flag just because you want to truce.

Unless this games turned really fucked up while I was away. Enlighten me, please.

I'm pretty sure people have lots of different opinions on this, and top player's opinions will change depending on the game they're in.

Unless something has changed. ;)

Well sure people are going to lie or backstab to get the points they want. I'm just making sure they're full of shit when they try to justify it. Not that logic abounds in anything on this site - so fuck if I know.

this was thoroughly discussed/debated in verms flagging blog post. basically, top players will agree to the transitive property if it either rewards them or if it rewards someone they respect. (i.e. i will accept 3rd if i flagged to you, jpc, and you lost the 1/2 battle)

however, top players will disagree with the transitive property if it rewards them or hurts someone they disrespect (i.e. i will backstab and go for 2nd and claim it was a 1/3 fight if i flagged to das, and das then lost the 1/2 fight).

make sense?

but yes, in my personal opinion, transitive property is justice. and if people break it, they should know that they are being an asshole. sometimes, i want to be an asshole.

I loathe the idea of letting someone I flagged to die 90% of the time.

if someone could take first by killing you, and they accept your flag, i believe you are obligated to help them.

nothing is worse than flagging to save your life, then watching someone get mopped bc they helped you.

now if that person blows their wad and totally fucks themself, i think you at times could claim that you are not a significant causative factor in their death and sit for your place.

I disagree on the transitive part of flagging. A flag should simply be a promise not to attack and a request not to be attacked. There should be no obligation to fight for the person you flagged to. Anything else should be called a truce.
