I don't talk to many conservatives in real life...

So here's another thread so I can get some of that point of view.

Try and be nice.

"so while he agrees with republicans that govt should be smaller"

Are people still pretending republicans actually believe this?

And by republicans, I mean their elected officials, certainly plenty of the voting population believes in it

I guess the premise of your entire post is that Republicans are hypocrites; however, Obama has spent worse than Bush by continuing most of his old programs while adding new ones of his own. So democrats can be called equally hypocritical for criticizing Bush for overspending and then defending Obama for overspending.

My immediate answer is that perhaps Republicans have noticed that overspending isn't fixing anything, which is why they want such deep cuts in spending. Whereas democrats don't particularly care to cut spending, they simply want to increase taxes to pay for it. It's called tax and spend and democrats have been doing it for decades.

As opposed to the nottaxtherich and spend plan that the GOP's followed for decades

We can argue bipartisanly all day if you like. Or would you rather admit that spending needs to be curtailed and neither party has it right at the moment?

I'm all for bashing Bush if that's what you want to do. Just make sure you bash Obama for the same fuck ups.

Oh I fully admit that both parties need to curb spending a huge way.

Though we might disagree on where the cuts come from.

Im just not of the party that claims to hate all the spending.

The debt debate has nothing to do with debt and everything to do with political posturing. If it were a Republican in the White House it would be the same argument just reversed with regards to the parties.
