That me and my level 75mates easily make up the greatest group of Co-levelers
jpc4p petomni riser nodice4u longhair Now I know most of you kids might not recognize some of those names, but trust me, no one comes close to this group. (inb4 someone in level 85 says a bunch of incorrect bullshit) |

at 5:57 PM, Thursday July 21, 2011 EDT wow jurg. thats quite a collection and i somehow doubt that it will drop in value anytime soon.
i have a decently sized collection under my custody too. when me and a few friends didnt care much about owning the cards anymore, we decided to throw them all together. now we get together once in a while, build a few decks and play some magic. |

when i was a kid i was obsessed with collecting. my brothers would open their toys, and i would keep everything boxed and just play with theirs. i have football/baseball card decks valued upwards of like 1000 per set. i never played the game, but i collected SO many Magic cards. I have several binders filled with mint condition cards. any value for them, or did that fad pass? |

at 2:42 AM, Friday July 22, 2011 EDT Yeah Shev, I am pretty proud of my collection and it would cost me at least twice the amount if I sold them and had to rebuy. I also have a few unique items like the uncut sheets of the second expansion set (Antiquities). Been years since I played now though, at the end, I was mainly collecting the sets.

at 2:45 AM, Friday July 22, 2011 EDT @ greek. the very early sets still have a lot of value, like Arabina Nights, Antiquities, Legends, Urza's Saga, etc
but then there is a group of sets where there is just too much supply. You can buy many sets for around $50 on ebay nowadays |

at 2:50 AM, Friday July 22, 2011 EDT Geez, I just checked some ebay prices of things I own. You can even get better prices for them on MtG events. Looks like I made a good investment (if I ever sell)

at 10:25 AM, Friday July 22, 2011 EDT holy shit youve got a sick sick set jurgs. our group of friends didnt get into MtG until the revised set was out (3rd edition?), so we didnt have too much opportunity to invest in the previous, but we would always gawk at any of the older cards ("holy shit, thats not a beta, THATS AN ALPHA!!!"). my proudest achievement was getting the set of legend gold dragons.
the very first booster pack that my brother opened had a shivan dragon in it, damn him. he instantly took the game not just as a competition, but as a business too. so he started investing more, and would buy boxes of booster packs, and then sell for profit. those days were blasts when he would come home with a whole box. in the end several of us had invested between one and three hundred dollars in it, and had sold off whatever cards we used to have, while he ended up making like $500 off the game, and was left with thousands of cards. genius fucker. he recently opened a toy store in jackson hole, and realized that a huge side-profit could be made with MtG cards. apparently now there is a new set out every 3 months or so, and all the rich kids want to buy everything asap. so he turns a hefty profit. and they love him for the supply, and the fact that he will open up the store on weekend nights at 9pm for MtG tourneys and supply free soda/chips for the nerds. and every now and then, he'll show them his old cards, and theyll go apeshit. somehow they think he is the king of MtG, and so he realized he should never sit and play against them, because then he would instantly lose his mystique. sorry about the rambling, MtG was a fun part of my life. and once again, holy shit @ your collection! |

at 3:29 PM, Friday July 22, 2011 EDT Legends is one of my favorite expansions and yeah revised was the 3rd edition.
When I started collecting, I mainly bought complete sets or even better : nearly complete sets. Sets minus one or two cards just sold really cheap at one point on ebay. That together with a weak dollar meant me making some great investments (selling to people in Belgium). I've sold about 20 sets after completing them, usually with a nice profit. I only bought boosters a few times. It's really the most costly way to make sets. I was lucky twice to find a shop that stopped selling MtG so I bought up stocks at $1 each booster. I completed 2 Portal III sets like that: don't know if you know it but it's a pretty valuable set entirely made up of Chinese historical figures and stuff. I also won a few magic sets and valuable cards from people at uni who couldn't settle their poker debts with me so I accepted those as payment :P. anyway, enough bragging, I'll just end with the real secret to my nice collection. My wife is crazy about Disney and especially about Disney music. There are literally over 1000 CDs I think, including all the exotic CD's from Tokyo Disneyland and all the extremely rare expanded scores only given to people from the Acadamy award committee. So this was actually my most successful silent truce ever. I didn't whine about her spending money on rare CDs and she let me buy all the MtG I wanted. The only thing is, I stoppped collecting MtG but she is still buying CD's :P |
