About two months ago I found this website because I really liked risk and so this game seemed really like it. I started playing it on my iphone on the bus, in between classes or when I was on my dorm taking a study break.
I think is a great game. One of the best online. I love the strategy to it and the social aspect. That was until about a few weeks ago. I realized that its mostly social... or whether or not your friends play it. I play it alone and have found it really challenging to rank up in my second month. This month however I have cracked a good plan to follow if you plan to play it as it is supposed to. 15 of my friends started playing this about 2 months ago. Now only 3 of us play it. I wonder what the percentage of active accounts/total accounts is. I really don't understand why it is not made with random tables. Just like the tourneys. I understand it would take longer but I really believe more people would play it if it was done that way, therefore decreasing the time it would take to make several tables. Group people together that have played the least among themselves. Quite a simple algorithm that could be made with something similar to a hashtable and a hashfunction. That would solve the PGA problem that kills the real competition of the game. For those of you who play the game the best this is what I have observed to be successful in the two months I have been playing. - Play in the tourneys...(this is where I find that most skillful players win often) yes there are also pgas but they won't always be together since tables are made randomly. - Avoid the 2ks or 5ks tables until 5 days before the close of the month and go to those tables during high traffic hours. - Try to switch up tables every other game. - Do PGE people that PGA with others. Teach them a lesson. I will finish up this month and try to get a top 25 badge and that will be it for me. Cheaters have really taken the fun out of it. |

really enjoyed it, and it was about a part of the game that has not been articulated that well in a long time :D |

Like fucking hell you know how to play this game without being a cheat, like fucking hell lol. @WWCSD The only way to place high, consistently, in this game is to cheat CONSISTENTLY. There is no other secret than that. Favoritism is key. Fuck over everyone but ur friends and make sure you have mod friends and then you can proxy and cheat and do w/e the fuck you want because it just doesn't matter then. |

If you are the caliber of player that can win a month without cheating then the game really becomes effortless for you. Ask monte or das or sam, I'm sure they'll tell you they don't "try" whenever they play 5k matches. I once got 201k with 110 games (and 1 week left in the month). About 130k was from tables so I didn't run a tourny racket like jesse or travis did. I just played tables and won. And you know what? Between my extremely lucky account, my decent reputation with those playing, and mastery of the game I won games effortlessly. But like I said, you don't need to take my word for it - ask anyone that played when I used to play. I don't think I've ever seen you on a 5k table. I don't think you've ever won a blue medal (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't ascribe weight or value to trophies but they are certainly a function of how well you play this game. Monte for instance can effortlessly pull 4th place in a month. It's because he's that good. He doesn't play 300 games. He doesn't stay up all night for members tournaments. I recognize that, and I recognize there's a difference between him winning a 4th place trophy and random person who played 300 games winning a 4th place trophy. It's my personal opinion that while skill has a hard limit in game mechanics, one's mastery of the metagame can be best quantified by things like PPG, time invested relative to points or the ASR system that chloe has. Let me know if you disagree with that sentiment dead. |

at 1:44 AM, Friday July 15, 2011 EDT Oh and like I said I've done it all so for all intents and purposes I'm retired. That's why I don't play. Unless Ryan adds some sort of team league I will keep not playing because the game no longer has replay value for me.
And I wouldn't say I play for points. In my time playing I only ever played two types of months: 1) just to kill time, wherein my priorities included giving people who wanted them points, and staying above 5k. 2) to win. when I was like you, before I understood the metagame, I tried and got reset. After some growth as a player I mastered the metagame and won twice. Neither time did I expend I great deal of effort either (besides consistently playing). My favorite month is still the onix month. That was a good one. |
