at 1:27 PM, Thursday June 30, 2011 EDT First off; BHO I wasn't talking to you.
I'm referring to the thread topic. "Conscription would avoid the militarism." But that isn't true. Militarism was happening way before the draft was repealed. Vietnam being the example. |

at 2:19 PM, Thursday June 30, 2011 EDT Yeah it's called bandwagon effect. In nazi germany they called it the Volkswagen effect. (kidding, since dead can't tell)
And anyway I went to military school for a bit so I know enough that I would totally join the officer Corp if there was a draft. Assuming I still want to chill here after said war. |

So adding the draft would only make the situation more of a moral dilemma. |

at 2:54 PM, Thursday June 30, 2011 EDT Sorry... How many chickenhawks were there before we got rid of the draft? Oh very few? The last 3-4 wars have been met with very little resistance you say? But all called for by gentlemen that never served in combat or the military?
Unlike you dead I would die to protect the rights of my countrymen. I agree with you in that I wouldn't die to make some corrupt asshole(s) rich over seas. |

at 3:08 PM, Thursday June 30, 2011 EDT deadcode the reason I believe conscription is not such a bad violation has to do with separation of power
if the army is conscripted, then it is of the people. that means that they will follow the intrests of the people more than a professional army would. that is exactly what happend in the french, american (the american militia) and russian revolution. a free society needs an army of the people and for the people. THEREFOR it is not a bad violation of human rights |

See but the difference is I would be able to tell the difference between the two wars. You are unable. |
