North Korea was just appointed chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/north-korea-head-un-conference-disarmament_575920.html

We need to cut funding to this organization and kick them out of NYC.

Sorry I couldn't head you through your hypocrisy of not criticizing boogy for the sane thing. If anything I was responding with a post of equal caliber to boogy on how only some Americans are very ignorant. I also added some ironic perspective. You're welcome.

Ehh hypocrisy again? Is this going to be like the last thread you called me a hypocrite in but then realized that you didn't actually know the definition; so you clammed up.

i see two things here:
1) dead being right.
2) dead's communication methods being a bit too american/ignorant, and therefore people disagreeing with him.

seriously, people, fucking north korea? you morons think they deserve to be a world leader in anything, much less disarmament? give me a single scale that shows they are in the top 80% of anything BESIDES WEAPONS/ARMS BUILDUP.

yes, im american, but im not saying america should be put in charge. put switzerland up there. put belgium up there. put norway up there. i dont give a fuck. but before you put ANYONE up there, show me goddamn proof, in the forms of world rankings, that this nation deserves to be a leader. i realize this means the usa shouldnt be a leader of disarmament, duhhhhh. but, come on, north korea? they have the single highest ratio of army resources to everything-not-army resources in the world right now.

to pull a BO, i will direct you to wikipedia, since i am too lazy to do my own research:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_troops

click on the far right column to see a per-capita rank. hell, click on any of those columns and be astounded at how fucking insane north korea's army is.

ok, after reading dead's article, ive got a slight different perspective. this isnt a permanent appointment, its just for this years conference. and there was no reason for appointing north korea outside of them being the next of 65 countries in alphabetical order, and it's their turn this year.

this tells me that whoever came up with this alphabetical idea is a moron, and whoever agrees that is is logical is, well, a moron. you should appoint leaders at the different conferences according to world rankings in each area. if that means first world countries get the majority of the leadership, call me ignorant, but i think thats a good thing. make sure there is a system of checks and balances, of course, so that the common leaders dont have the power go to their heads. but for the love of god, north korea (in its current state) should never be the head of a disarmament conference, just as the usa should never be the head of an economic conference (har har.)

monte, who would be the arbiter? who would decide that one country was or was not the world leader in a field?

just see how bad people react to critsizm of their own country in this forum, imagine how bad they react on a national level, where saving face and the press is involved!

diplomacy is a delicate thing, and it is important for an organisatio like the UN to not step on any toes more than it has to, otherwise it might lose out. the UN have no way of enforcing its directives, it is the member nations that enforce them, but how would you make a member nation that felt stepped on enforce a directive? it is difficult. there is already a concern about western domination and the western world forcing the western values into the UN, without even concidering the other nations values.

do not be so quick to judge a system like this, the UN is a fragile strcture that is there to facilitate nations to talk to each other. the UN has to chose carefully where it can take its stands, otherwise it will quickly become irrelevant.

not entering the discussion too much but i just wanted to point out one thing

Appointing them chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament was probably a bridge or 2 too far.

However, isolating them or kicking them out will not benefit the world either, certainly not the poor N Korean civilians that suffer most under the embargo's or the isolation of the country. In fact, the N Korean leaders would love it way too much if they could use this as their next excuse to stay in power.

the UN is a weak organisation because not a single superpower actually wants it to be a strong organisation that can go over their head

the idea behind it is great but it was never allowed to be more than just a discussion platform

Understand the concern about the membership of North Korea,But if we can bring them into the fold perhaps we may gain a better position to be able to help people in that country, to exclude them would be counter productive.

Bitch please I couldn't find the video of Ron Paul calling poll test restrictions unconstitutional but I found him endorsing tons of members of the constitutional party who say that very thing. Check the Wikipedia if you want. And sorry I had fucking shit to do other than talk to a political radical on the internet
